Question About Working for Vail

How easy to change what department I’m working in? I got hired to work lifts but I really wanted to work park crew, however they weren’t hiring. Could I just talk to my manager and get switched? Anyone have any experience with this?

VR's employee dashboard should have a link for employment directories like any other major resort (used to work there myself) so check there religiously or get contact info from the employee directory for the park crew manager and send a formal email with a resume or give him a call. Granted its probably a crazy-hectic time of year right now for managers but any opportunity you can get to talk to them one on one would be huge, plus people generally quit in the resort world within like 6 weeks of opening day so theres that. I feel like Managers hire heavy at the start to anticipate that drop-off due to the nature of the seasonal work beast.

I had a friend that was working scanning but wanted to switch over to ski school. He talked to his manager and mine (ski school) they were fine with it. I know there was more to it than that but it didn't seem like that much of a hassle

Only job id get at the resorts would to be a cat operator. Making runs sounds sick. Or work in retail. Anything else sounds like poopoo.

If you're in breck I could connect you with park crew and at least that'd get your foot in the door, granted it still has to go through all of the Vail Resorts bs

Former senior level manager here. Best bet is talking directly with Park Crew Manager. VR is pretty keen on not cannibalizing other departments, but if you go about it the right way, you'll likely get what you're looking for.

Another slept on VR job is working in the tune shop, especially if you're a gear junkie. That's where I started my career and I skied more than anyone I know. Not only do you get most of the day off, but you keep your own equipment prime and get to learn everything there is to know about gear.

It depends. It can actually be a pain in the ass. Lifts are short handeda lot of places. They won't give upal a person that easily. Would def talk to the park manager asap and see what can be done. Also park crew is generally hard to get in. They get hundreds of apps sometimes at the big mtns. So do that asap.

I'd say go to HR but who knows if you have a physical HR person at your mtn anymore. VR decided to do everything through broomfield. Journey to 0'd.

Good luck though. Hopefully they can work something out at least it is still start of season.
