Question about what length of ski to get

Hey guys, I'm a snowboarder who is crossing over to skiing this year and am not too sure which size ski to get. My friend who is a skiier is telling me to get 160-170cm skis since I'm only 5'9.5". The thing is though is that I'm pretty heavy at about 215lbs. What size do you think I should be going for? The main models I am looking at are 1080's, PE's, and trouble makers, mainly because they are twin tips and aren't too expensive.

Thanks.

its mainly personal preferance and if u wanna longer ski or not, i wouldent go shorter then 170 and maybe 180

at your weight, i would reccomend the PE's. Karmas if you can, or head Mojo 80's..maybe even Mojo 90.

im still feeling like he should be on a longer ski than 175, hes 90lbs heavier then the other kid whose skieng 180's, 90 lbs, thats a huge weight difference, but becuase hes a little new to skiing i feelin 180 ,like a said

if you are learning to ski get 169 PEs. at 215 I wouldn't rock salomons cuz while they are sick skis, they are pretty squishy for people much over 150. PEs are a sick value of a ski and a good flex for you. I think the 179 would be quite a handful for you to handle. I just got some 181 armada ar6s and I'm 6 feet and wouldn't want anythin too much taller. Line chronics would also be good and I reckon they make them in like 176 or 172 or something like that in the 70s that would be a sweet size.

buy 174 troublemakers or 174 pe's. they r good bcause not too long so u can learn easily but not way short so theyll still be okay wen u get better, on that note i am selling some mint condition 174 05/06 public enemies, that i could sell you for cheap. PM me if interested

yep! that's a good thing to keep in mind if you are just starting to ski. once you get better given your hieght and weight you should be around the 180 ski lenghts.

it depends, if you are starting off you want a shorter ski, but you are a hefty fellow. if you were a proficient skier, i would say get a ski with a lenght between 176 and 185 but since you are starting out, 170 or so might be a good length for you

yeah right, i'm 70 pounds lighter than him and ride a 170. granted, i am more experienced but think about how hard it would be to land much of anything if you weigh 215 and you are on 170s, especially a soft ski. i would say a stiff ski at 175 AT LEAST. but preferably 180-185.

Don't go over 180 on your first pair if you're new to skiing, you won't be able to turn them, I would say look in the 170-180 range.
