Quebec Breeds Talented Skiers

Has anyone else noticed the amount of talent that has come out of Quebec? It just seems like everyone there slays, like people of all ages. Crazy French motherfuckers.

Its the poutine.

Seriously though, the only crying shame is that a lot of them don't get nearly the respect or support they deserve.

you forgot maude

And all of the Tabarnak Pack, Streetnation, Brotherhood guys, and many, many more. It's insane how they don't get as much notice just because they aren't based in the U.S.

Its because people outside of the USA teach their kids work ethic.

I love linking up with all the homies from Canada to hit rails and film, some of the most motivated skiers I have ever met!!

I would argue that the US is one of the hardest working nations in the world.

Candide is actually from France.

I would also argue that a similar amount of good skiers come out of regions similar in size and resort density to Quebec. There are so many good skiers these days it is rediculous.

Lol, Try getting respect as a Euro, so many kids here are so much better than kids who are basically pros in Canada and the USA and barely have support. Luca Schuler was on the pro form Head team till Sochi came around.

Phil Warren

Marc Andrea Bellevue

Thomas Renfret

Iannick B

and the new kids like ABM, Bellemare and Laporte are keeping the tradition alive and killing it harder then ever.

Quebec is the birthplace of park skiing. In general, Quebec is a province where a lot of people partake in outdoorsy activities. Skiing being one of them.

The main reason is they have the best funding for sports programs in Canada and probably close to the best funding in the world. So really you can thank Alberta for quebec's success in sports. Also that putting your kids in hockey since they can walk is far more part of their culture than anywhere else, partly thanks to our being far more affordable.

There are always reasons!

And let's not forget for asking that Quebec probably has the highest hills to people radio in the country with no doubt 90% of the population living within 30 minutes of a ski hill. Maybe BC is a bit better. Part of the reason for this is the huge subsidies for electricity ski hills get in qc allowing even the smallest to survive.

And many more reasons.

All really good points!

The only reason I was able to play hockey growing up was because our community had a great program in place to get kids into the sport. They offered extremely cheap (if not free) registration, and the league hooked up (albeit, super shitty) loaner goalie equipment each season until I wasn't growing anymore. That along with a ton of fundraising and support from family allowed me to play hockey most of my life!

Now, there aren't necessarily the same programs in place that allow kids to pickup and continue skiing -- but there are a ton in place who's goal is to get youth to experience skiing. I think I was about 12 the first time I went skiing (through one of these introduction programs) and instantaneously fell in love.

Unfortunately I still wasn't able to afford to pickup skiing as a hobby... so I joined the army at 16 and worked my ass off in the summers so I could ski in the winter.
