Quad Muscle Recovery?

I'm a skier from Manitoba; I started there and skied only there for 8 years because I'm the funder not the funded. Now I'm on a trip in Fernie and HOLY SHIT it's awesome here! What I wasn't expecting is how much my quads would burn! I've skied for 3 days straight and day 3 I felt really sloppy; I couldn't hold an edge for my own life in some cases.

I have 1 more day left, done a bunch of shooting for my brother but basically nothing of me shredding....I need to make this count. What can I do to make make my quads feel close to top shape so I can minimize any suffering?

look up quad stretches and do them, drink energy drinks before you go out and take a couple advil as well... unfortunately there's really not much you can do one day before you go skiing, they need rest. Get to sleep early tonight

you didnt think skiing on actual mountins would put more stress on your legs than skiing in fucking manitoba? you dumb, son?

take 800mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours, hot/cold contrast showers, eat well, learn how to carve properly, drink water, get a long warmup in before skiing tomorrow, pound some NOexplode and go charge something.

generally, no matter how tired you think you are, if your body needs your legs to respond well or you will die(ie strightlining a mogul field, stomping cliffs at speed into hard carves to avoid trees/rocks), your legs will work just fine.

Suck it up, and dont call last run.

Drink lots of water and eat really well, keep taking a lots of ibuprofen, stretch a lot, rip beers but not many tonight

I've a 2L Camelbak I carry with me in my Dakine Heli Pro Backpack, I don't have any but can pick some up tomorrow before I head out, I've been stretching before and after skiing, and I honestly don't drink a lot or even often.

No I put no thought into it; color me ignorant. I was focusing more on the trip and getting to ski in Fernie after waiting so long than my body's actual physical readiness.

I'll buy some Advil and I've taken a hot bath. I've also been stretching before skiing most days though I should probably do it after too.

hot bath is awful. it will increase inflamation which increases soreness. you want to take a contrast shower: 1min hot, 30 seconds ice cold and repeat. it will help flush blood through your body and help to clear out waste products reducing soreness the next day and icreasing the rate of recovery.

take advil now. you want to decrease inflamation now. tomorrow will help, but you can start that process now.

and WTF to the first part? you were focusing more on the trip than getting ready for it? wtf does that even mean? you didnt want to maximize your time out in fernie by getting in great shape so you could rip all day every day? Damn, buddy. if i was in your shoes i would have been killing myself in the gym for the 2 months beforehand and scouring TGR and google for tips on where to go around the resort.

I don't get this line of thinking. I've never found that gym/weight lifting has any bearing on skiing endurance. Especially for the average skier. At the top level, yes. But for recreational skiers you really just have to ski regularly.

If you can, go buy a short length (12"-24") of 4" PVC pipe (a nalgene will work in a pinch) and a lacrosse ball. Lie down with your quads/hamstrings/whatever else is sore on top of the pipe/bottle/ball and roll that crap out. Hurts like hell, but helps a ton.

(Look up foam rolling for leg recovery and you should find lots of info. MobilityWOD is a pretty solid resource)

for those of us that only get in 30 days per year it will only help a ton.

Do you also not get the line of thinking that drinking water will help prevent dehydration?

Ok.

I did stretches, contrast hot/cold shower, bought and took ibuprofen, even took sone left over adderal from school (I care less about what my body feels when focusing), and put in some insoles in my Booters because my foot was around in it wayyyy too much.

It was a good day, I skied what I'd been eyeing and the video footage I wanted. Next time, I am going to prepare my body more thouroughly

find something hard(edge of a bed) amd put full weight on it with your quad, quad being relaxed. It imitetes foam roller(and any sport massage). It will hurt a lot, but tomorrow youll be golden
