Before I start I have searchbared and nothing answered this question specificaly.

When building a rail with pvc tubes onto a wood frame do I drill it in through the pvc and hope the hole doesnt catch my skis or is their another way (glue or other)?

Thanks this is much apreciated!

you have to pre drill a hole all the way through the pipe, then drill it in so it is at the bottom and inside the pipe. if that didnt make sense just pm me haha

pre drill the PVC then screw right through it. File the edges around the hole and you're golden. I had PVC setup in my front yard this past winter. Slick stuff, sharp edges can catch HARD and gouge the pipe.

if you dont have really sharp edges then you wont even need to file it. i havent had to in all the pvc boxes/rails ive built. if you have a real shitty drill bit you may need to file it but thats only if it causes the pvc to rais up a little at the edges of the holes. i was using carbide tip ones so i never had a problem and it cut through the pvc mad easy

screw from the bottom of the rail up. dont drill a hole in top, that makes it much weaker.

Sick thanks, and as for number of tubes I was thinking 3 was a good medium between a box and a rail. I thought it would be good to learn new stuff and still narrow enough to switch up easily. What do you guys think?

dude use 'liquid nails glue' it works amazingly well. once it dries it will not budge. You shoudl definately trust me on this

idk why everyone says not to put it through the top. it doesnt make it weaker or catch up. drilling through the bottom will make it weaker because its not going to be held down. drill through the top and put a washer down and it will be more than sturdy

I drilled a hole in the top, bored it out big enough to fit the screw head in. Then screwed through the bottom (with no pre-drilled hole) into the wood.

I used 1/4 inch pipes which are small so after you bore out the top hole it makes it a lot smoother. Never had any catch ups

i just made a pvc box with 7 small pvcs lined up. I used a line of glue under each one and it works like a gem i guess if you have the right glue you cant go wrong with that instead of screws

yes. liquid nails is like caulk, and it holds really well. use that, then put screws in on the ends of the pvc without drilling. trust both of us on this
