no, i use on my rail, and have hit it over 25 times, no damage. the edges of your skies actually scratch off some of the plastic

 
the only thing you haev to worry about is catching an edge and falling on your face cause its really easy to do

PVC is really slippery....so your edges will wear it down a bit.....just dont fall on your face!!!

i have a pvc rail, 4 .5 inch pvc pipes on a 2x4. there were perfectly
