Putting DVD to ipod video

does anyone know a program that will convert either a dvd or a single .avi or .mpg file to the correct resolution and file format (which is mpeg4 I think) in order to put it on the 5th generation Ipod?

you have to buy quicktime 7 pro for like $30...or just look for a free program on google or one of the apple support forums
