puting vids onto cd's

can you do that? i have heard of it. i tried saving it as an avi file and buning it but it didnt work, it said that there was an error and could not burn the certain content. does anyone have any suggestions??

vcds kick ass but my dvd player that i got plays files,so if i burn a movie onto a cd as a file,i can play it in my dvd player,its sweet
