Ok so i got a mac laptop. When i went to turn it on it just started flashing a folder with a question mark in the middle of it, with the blank white screen. Instead of showing the apple with the spindely thing underneath it. I dont really want to take it anywere to get fixed. Ive tried turning it off and turning back on and letting it sit and charge for a while but nothing helped.

If anyone knows anything about macs and might know how to fix this your input would be very appriecieted.

thanks

try this, i had to do it once with mine.....

1. turn comp off
2. turn on the computer...
3. press and hold command, option, P and R....these need to be pressed and held before the gray screen appears
4. If and when you hear the start up sound you can release the keys

just so you know this is reseting the computers PRAM and NVRAM

folder with a question mark, ehh?
i have had macs for my whole life and i have never had that one, but i can offer a possible reason..

sounds like the hard drive cannot be found. do what eurotune2 says then see what happens. i have reset it like that before for another reason and it should work.

have you dropped or hit your laptop with any kind of force recently? that's the kind of stuff that will kill your hard drive. luckily a bad hard drive is an easy fix that shouldn't require you to RMA your laptop (unless you're a total noob)
