Protein supplements

I searched and found a lot of people talking about taking protein supplements for lifting, and other sports. But are any of you taking it specifically for skiing? I am using a whey shake at the moment, because I am going to the gym a fair bit, but in a few weeks, I will switch to just skiing (where I ski doesn't really have a gym), but am thinking about taking some with me to take when I have particularly long days on snow, maybe some bars for snacks in the afternoons.

This is mainly because I feel like a lot of the time when I ski, I don't eat enough protein, and my muscles don't recover as quickly as they could. I ski for 6+ hours a day for 30+ days at a time, so often recovery can be tough.

From a recent thread I know people will say 'I just eat ramen and I'm fine' but I know that doesn't work for me. I am probably already going to take some with me and see how it goes, but am just wondering if anyone does the same.

Powerbars are good for skiing, but you about have to keep them in your ass to prevent them from freezing. Once they do freeze, good luck.

Try taking glutamine. It really helps with the recovery of muscles after work outs and such. It is fairly cheap and you can get it flavourless so you can even put it in your protein shakes. I lift seriously as a college football player and can attest to glutamine being helpful!

One of the recovery shakes I was looking at has Glutamine in it too, plus creatine though, and I don't know if I need/want that.
