Protein Powder

My roommate seems to think that if he drinks his protein shakes three times a day with 7 types of creatine, along with suppliments, pills, etc. and only workout 3 times/week, he'll get ripped. I told him no. I dont use the stuff but im pretty sure youre only supposed to drink it right after a workout...?

the short answer is probably not, but then again you didn't give much information, i.e., what type of protein is he taking (yes there are multiple types, not just brands) and what types of creatine and types of other supplements he's on.
protein shakes are helpful because they're packed with protein obviously which is a big component in muscle repair and rebuilding. they usually also contain important amino acids and complex carbs among other things, but again that depends on exactly what he's taking. they aren't designed to replace meals, because you need a lot of additional vitamins and minerals on a daily basis that protein supplements do not provide you with. they are there only to "supplement" your regular diet. they are certainly not the answer to everything.
anyway, based on what you said, no he probably won't get ripped. it depends on what he eats on a daily basis outside of the supplements, his body type, workout style and his general lifestyle. does he drink often? what kind of workouts does he do on those 3 days? what about the other 4 days of the week?

tl:dr? ....answer is no.

your friend sounds lazy and stupid, although simply working out 3 times a week and eating healthy will show an improvement. he doesn't need all those supplements if he's only going to work out 3 times a week, i'm sure he gets enough protein in his regular diet to repair muscle after a workout.

^its not just about creatine, its about how ridiculous my roommate is haha. He's on: Iso Mass Extreme Gainer, GNC Megasport, fat burner, more creatine pills, M-Stak, Milk Thistle...a total of 9 different things. I dont know, I just dont think its healthy.

Tell him to not be a bitch. Work out every other day and just do straight nitrogen supplements. Shit's hard

dude, in the last week there has been like 20 threads on similar, work-out related topics.

allz im sayin, is this is newschoolers, i know its NSG, but its still newschoolers.

if you actually want good info, hit a bodybuilders forum. technopotamus can only give so much info.

and even still, its your roommate, not you. my roommate chronically masterbates. i dont think its healthy, but you also dont see me making a thread about it on newschoolers.

ya know what im saying mange?

tell him to go on bodybuilding.com read the stickies on the nutrition, newbie forums and get his shit straight so he doesn't waste his time and money.

kids stupid as fuck. he needs to be lifting 4 days a week or more and doing 2 days of cardio. without that he aint gettin fuckin ripped no matter what the fuck he is taking. also he needs to have a really good diet if he wants to gain muscle. im guessing your in college so you arent buying chicken breasts and cooking them 5 times a day..

Working out 3 times a week isnt bad, as long as you do cardio on the other days. But as for taking like 9 supplements your right the kids a fucking idiot. That stuff only works if you use it properly and at the right time. Taking a wild guess i'd say he only needs protein powder, maybe a pill if hes serious into massing up

shit destroys the liver and a lot of those pills have found to case cancer when taken over a long period of time.
