Protective gear

Do any of you guys use protective gear other then helmets when you ski such as below?

By the way, for any of you who have consistent thumb or wrist injuries I thought of something. I'm an ex-boxer and I think boxing has something for you guys. As a boxer you hit solid surfaces with tremendous amounts of force (a heavyweight like me throws at about 1300 pounds of force per square inch). All that force impacts on the hands and neither the wrist or thumbs (when the thumb accidently gets caught) get injured even when you land at an off angle because your hands are very carefully wrapped by hand wraps. I know they have wrist guards out there and thumb stuff on gloves and poles as well but I can tell you from someone who has hit a heavy bag millions of times those things are jokes compared to the wrist and thumb protection you get from properly wrapped hands with boxing wraps (wraps not boxing wrist guards which are useless). So if any of you guys keep screwing up your thumbs or wrists you might want to get a pair of mexican style boxing hand wraps and learn how to wrap your hands. I gurantee they will protect you much much better.

yai have a pair of the 2600's i wear them sometimes like last year when i had a huge hematoma on my hip and falling on it all the time made it 5x its normal size it hurt real bad and was so nasty lol. i still have it kind of to its pretty nasty so i will prolly just wear that shit so i dont fuck it up again.

1300 pounds per sq inch?! thats all you got?! when i box while riding i'm throwing like 3gs per sq in, minimum. you clearly need to step it up.

LOL, actually given that your entire, shall we say, 170lbs body mass is traveling 50mph your force is probably much more then that when riding ;-) ........ I still wouldn't be picking fights with Tyson though ;-)

the link he put in the original post has some of the most insane crash pads ive ever seen...if you wore all that shit you'd practically be bionic

you could also make a pretty good costume from the movie Tron out of it

i dont think the one thats like an under armor shirt is necessary. i mean ya u can land on your ribs here and there but usually u are falling on your arms or something where u will break your arm or dislocate it nothing those pads can save.

Do you wear the knee braces because you have knee problems or just for protection? If for protection are they just the same standard braces that those with knee problems wear or are they made specifically as preventitive/protection stuff?

ok??

umm...iv broken a total of 3 different bones in my life and none of them were from skiing

do you really need crash pads? just ask yourself that...

crash pads are for noobs...plain and simple

helmets should be worn by everyone (if your smart)

i wear crash pads for my hip because its fucked and if i dont wear a pad on it and i fall on it will cause me to not ski or ski in severe pain for weeks. i had a hematoma and bruise the whole way into the bone. for me its something i need i see no reason for it to be called pussy.

I have seen some NASTY shots of broken wrists with people wearing short wristguards. I'm buying some new protective gear for this year as I plan on spending much more time on rails. but AVOID SHORT WRISTGUARDS. If I knew how to post photos Id show you one where a guy has radial fractures of his radius and unla and he was wearing a dakine wristguard.

i wear a carbon full face helmet, if im learning something sometimes ill wear my upper body armor for downhilling, rarely though

Just started wearing some pads this year. I've got the Six Six One Bomber Shorts and N8-3 Pressure Suit. Used to just wear a helmet. Been riding freestyle for almost 10 years and had more than my share of broken bones and torn ligaments. It's all about protecting yourself so you can walk when you're 30. BTW, don't skip your helmet, or any other protective gear you might want to wear, because you want to be a bad ass. That's just dumb. Plus, you'll get more days riding if you're hurt less...

Crash Pads, especially those in the link at the start of this thread are the best thing out there until you tell your friends. sort of like uhhh nevermind... :)

Check out www.sixsixone.com.

They have some sweet protective gear at pretty competitive prices. Everything from braces (knee, elbow, ankle, etc.) to upper and lower body armor, helmets, and more. They are available in stores or straight from their site.

how big are these jumps you guys are going off?  i wear a helmet and feel safe.  or is this big moutain were talking about?

I wear pads and couldn't care less what people have to say about it. I have a Crashpads 6100 jacket and 2500 shorts plus I wear 661 Race Lite knee and shin guards. All of the above have saved me from injury and have kept me on the mountain longer than if I rode unprotected. Big ass bruises don't make you tough.

I wear a helmet and impact shorts. I'd be interested in trying some torso protection, but I haven't found anything that looks worthwhile.

my friend always wears knee braces, claims it really helps him, and my little brother wears a full face bike helmet because he can borrow it for free

I take a lot of supplements -some vitamins from Austria that my mom picked up that are supposed to make your bones stronger. I also drink a Mad Dog every day, it improves performance, increases my concentration and reaction speed, helps with endurance, and definitely stimulates my metabolism. It also turns my tongue blue which is supper steezy for apres ski, and on top of that I think it may be making my dick bigger!

im pretty sure olenick wears crash shorts, didnt he say they were in the bag he forgot in the yeah dude bonus features?

i only wear helmet, but thinkin about knee brace cause i fucked up my knee last year...anyone heard of the asterisk knee brace? is it worth it?

yeah, I got a new pair, they went up on Whiskey Militia for about 70% off retail. Now I can double up the padding from my old ones and have my hips be invinsible!

this seems strange to me.. in america, i have never really met anyone who wore anything but a helmet, i did meet a snowboarder with one of those armor short things for maximized ass protection.  anyways, a LOT of my friends wore back protectors in Switzerland though.. even my friends who weren't that great, or that into skiing or snowboarding. they were like.. why dont you have on too..?   i was kinda tempted, i usually feel like a bruise dalmation come mid winter.
