Problems with STL's

Yeah, so with less than a month of actual skiing, my STL's have broken pretty good. Looks like the base/edges have broken off the sidewall and core of the ski, leaving the core exposed and the base all bumpy. Happened yesterday and has grown to about a 1/2cm gap in between the broken parts.

You know, I'm just, I'm just kinda TO'ed because like, they have held up worse then pretty much all of my other skis.

Yeah, I'm afraid it's going to be considered rail damage though. I've got every intent to try.

man. i love when people get all scared about things like this. its just rail damage. i snapped the tail of my ski like 8 inches from the very tail. 4FRNT's are still prolly better quality and more durable than most skis.

You have to see then in person, I probably shpuld have put something next to them to put the size in perspective. It's a big gap, and, I hate to say it, but it's way beyond rail damage. You wouldn't expect your skis to literally split apart after less then a month on them, regardless of how many rails you've hit.

yea my friends are breaking apart and chipping on the top. nothing that will affect preformance but its still discouraging.

Logic is working to stock up on premade hats so our store is closed for now. If you have a suggestion don't hesitate to e-mail me.

same thing happened to my msps after about 15 days on them. it seems like a warranty issue though, mine is definately not from rail damage. it looks as if it wasnt sealed and water got inside the ski and froze, pushing it apart. give 4FRNT a call about it.

first time out on the new STL's, my buddy gets a rail bump on the edge. bent the edge in, and now a part of the base is all ripple-ly. the edges aren't even worn down yet!

but, that could have happened to any ski, so it's not the STL's........ but i was a little sketched when i picked them up, they don't feel so solid..................

warranty them already it happens every day to everyone. If you don't think they will warranty them you might be surprised.

damn, thats nuts. ive decided that the stls are the most durable ski ive ever ridden. they are holding up SO nice, and ive been riding hard. but thats way fixable. sucks cause they are sick skis.

i looked on google but all i could find was 3D Animation porn-sxmarty6

ECS headwear, hit me up!

yea dude, i just got a new pair of stls, 183, and i like em a lot. Theyre sick, and ive only ridden them 1 day. I hope that nothing like this happens man. good luck.

my stls have been neing rocked pretty hard on rails and they are goin strong because they are handmade skis they differ in quality a bit i think

Im not outta line your outta line the whole frikin system is outta line and when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo and find out its your best friends face, well guess what marge its chinatown.

Yep, mine are holding up just fine after riding all season so far. I keep good care of them and dont leave them outside and shit too. They ride pretty well all mtn. I've taken em in pow and they were fun. That definately just looks like a defect and im sure they will more than likely warranty them if you aren't an asshole about it.

I think luck plays a huge factor in a skis durability. You can rip your edge out on the first run of the year, or on the same exact season get hundreds of days railing without problems. Shit happens, it sucks, but what can you do?

^not buy 4frnts. Other than that, not a hell of a lot.

Seriously, what the fuck went through your head when you stood in front of the wall of skis at your local shop and picked up your pair of STLs? 'These flimsy pieces of shit look like they're gonna hold up'. Maybe you flexed them after that, like all you jackasses do. 'Hey, they're ridiculously soft as well, bah, whatever'. Then, maybe, your last clue might have been the pathetic finish quality. Yet somehow, you went ahead and STILL purchased your piece of shit 4frnt STLs. C'mon, seriously, what the hell were you thinking? Especially when the MSP, a 'better' alternative(better is in quotes, it's not all that great), was probably right beside it on the wall.

Spending $600 on skis that blow up sucks. Spending $600 on a pair of skis that are 'pro skier-designed', and manufactured by some snowboard company for a 'skier-owned' company is a slap in the face. Let's hope they get warrantied.

Bahahaha... or, you could call it the 'elitist snob' cult. Anyways, my family already owns a country club, so no thanks.

I purchased the STL's because I had had the MSP's last year, and had extremely good experiences with them, they showed almost no wear besides the usual edge damage associated with rails. Living on the east coast however, I wanted a more park oriented ski, and with my past impressions of the MSP and of the company as a whole, I went with the STL's.

hahah jib_this thinks hes soooo smart.

I dont know how many edges i have ripped out of scratchs in the last couple years, bc's and fs's, i have rode my stls and msps hard for the last 8 months with out stop...lots of urban to, and mine are perfect, round ass edges with lots of marks on the base but not even any cracks in the edge.

jib_this, have a problem seeing new companies do good? Seems like you've been waiting for a chance to pounce on 4FRNT. The STL's are a VERY durable ski, mine have withstood numerous urban and on-snow rails.

I would be amused to see how many people have de-lamed their Salomon's or snapped their Rossi's. The only reason this is news is because it IS 4FRNT, and they have a reputation for being so durable, it's a shock to see somehting like this happen (even though I still can't see it).

If someone broke their Scratch or 1080, do think there'd be a 30 post thread about it?

Didn't think so.

Can you SEE wood? If you can't, you're looking at resin, it's what bonds the edge and sidewall together, and it shouldn't be a problem.

I cant see anything wrong with the pic?? maybe im not seein it

Yes, I can see the actual wood core in the crack.

The pic is misleading, you can't see the depth and the size of the split in the skis, but I can't really get a better one with the two-dimensional limitations.

put some epoxy in there and clamp it... it will be like new, then if you have to warrentry them in the future at least you tried to fix them first

^What?

Anyway, have you contacted your local shop or rep? Have you contacted 4FRNT? If not, you're sure not going to get alot done on here, unless you think NS will replace them.

I wouldn't worry about it even if it is a warranty (which I don't know if it is), every ski company in the world has skis come back. The fact that 4FRNT's return rate is around 1% or less, I'd feel confident about your purchase.

I've seen Austin Ramaley use his STL's all season long, and they look cherry. If you know Austin, you know he's HARD on skis.

i snapped the tail on my STLs after about 2 weeks. and the guy at my shop who did all the contacting for me said that 'it doesn't look promising' i am gonna be soooo dissappointed if they don't cover it. i didn't even do anything.... i looked down and the topskeet and carbon fiber type layer under it is totally cracked across the tail.... now it has a wierd flex and will rott the core.

Mulletskum, I have an idea for you. If the same thing happened to you that happened to me with my PE's, you snapped your tails digging them into the snow on a bad landing. Which my shop told me wasn't a warranty either. BUT, my Dad's Visa bought them, and under the Visa purchase protection plan, he was refunded and was I was able to buy a pair of new STL's. This will only work if you bought it with a credit card. Hope it works!

jib_this

i would probably want a pari of skis amde by a snowboard factory beacuse snowboards are built touh and they invented the doubled ended piece of equipment so eat shit and die please

Im not outta line your outta line the whole frikin system is outta line and when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo and find out its your best friends face, well guess what marge its chinatown.

same thing happened to my msps and it just gets worse...i sent them in and they bonded the edge and sidewall back together..and it came apart on my first day riding again

The only problem I've had with my STL's so far is a bit of topsheet chipped and that's only cosmetic and it was my fault. They're the best skis I've ever ridden in the park.

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
