Pricing question

A friend of my dad wants me to put together a highlight video of his son playing lacrosse to send to schools for scholarships. He said that he will provide me with all the footage i need and to edit the video between 3-5 minutes.

He has asked me how much i would charge them for this as another player on his sons team would like one done as well. I've never charged anyone for work yet so i don't know what is fair but at the same time not getting ripped off.

Thanks guys. All help is rewarded with karma as usual !

I'm guessing the footage is going to be pretty shitty, so the video itself won't be that great. I'm thinking he just wants it to blend and put a song behind it. Seems like a really easy project, but you also have to realize how much time going through the footage, adding titles, songs, exporting is all going to take. I'd charge per project, since it's not seeming like they want anything too professional, I'd go for about $200/video-- work on it for 7 hours and get $30/hour. I don't know enough about the video quality, etc. to make a very accurate quote though

I've sent an email to him about picking up the footage. as for pricing i'd have to get back to him as i have to see how much footage there is to go through and talk to him exactly what he would like done.

i did something like this for a soccer video and the clips were absolute horse shit. so i just told her straight up that its not gonna be amazing cuz she filmed it and she was okay with it. i got 100 bucks for that but while i was doing it miserably kept thinking to myself how i was being undercharged because i had to convert clips and add them to the project and what not so it was pretty tedious before the editing even started. so i would say if you know them pretty well anywhere from $150-$200 for 3-5 minutes would be good. if you don't know them that well, at least 200
