i have atomic hawx ultra 120s that i got this summer that were totally fine on my summer setup for hours at a time but in the beginning of the season i started getting random boot pain which has since gone away and then now i get pretty bad pain from what i think is the tongue pressing on a vain in both my ankles, wondering if theres anything i could adjust or something to try to stop the pain bc it really messes things up.

maybe change the forward lean ⬇️?

its at 17, if i put it at 15 or 13 could it help maybe? and also what does forward lean do and will it be a mistake performance wise?

shitty thread i know, i haven't made a good thread in months... and your probably gonna say go to a bootfitter but im just looking for short term fixes or improvements at least. just help please, it would be so helpful

How did you relieve your pain? Did you change the lean ? Was it set at 17 when you first got the boots?

didnt change the lean, usually when i do things to my gear i fuck things up so i decided to just stick a beer koozie in infront of the tongue and it got rid of the pressure it seems. guess ill figure it out tomorrow... and yes they were at 17 when i got them, guy at the shop did it and said it made sense idrk

The 17 might be too aggressive of a lean for when you actually got out skiing on real snow/mountain? The forward lean changes the cuff angle which then changes your stance. So the 17 has you in a deeper more athletic stance than the 15 or 13. The boots were likely set at 15, the middle ground where Atomic feels that was a good place for most people to start at. Why the heck the shop guy thought to change it to 17 before you even skied them doesn't make much sense.

My current Salomon boots I just found out are like at 11 and not adjustable like yours. It has me too upright and Ive been fighting this for two seasons now. I never thought of this until I was boot shopping this week (because I need new boots anyway) and seen this on the Atomic brand.

It's odd they were OK then not.

Pay attention to how the tongue overlaps the liner and the plastic bits the buckle is mounted on. Usually there's more than one way it can layer, and one hurts the other doesn't. For example the lower part of the tongue might be under everything, in between the liner and shell, or even on top of everything.

Forward lean is a very personal thing. Stand locked into your bindings in your boot and flex forward, if you get heel lift in your boots, your forward lean is likely too aggressive, and your ankle flexion isn’t set up to handle the amount of lean. I could go a lot more in depth but it’s hard to explain just writing it out here.
