Pre-video ads/Axe rant

I understand that these are a good source of income for NS, but I also feel that a 30 second ad before a 1:12 video is too much. And yes I probably wouldn't be bitching if it wern't for that fucking "double pits to chesty" piece of shit. For the record, I will never buy another Axe product because of that ad.

haha i gotta agree. im totally understanding of the fact that the money helps NS etc etc, but that ad (at 30 seconds) is jsut retarded

Beethoven had his critics too

Doug + staff are always working to refine the mix between revenue generating advertising and the user experience..at the end of the day, nothing can be perfect

All I can say is that the ads are certainly effective in generating awareness irrespective of whether or not people will actually buy or not.

very true. ads aren't necessarily made so you'll buy a product, they're also used to remind people of their product and to not let the product be forgotten. axe has certainly done a great job with raising awareness of their product, that's for sure.

i wouldnt go that far. teenage skiers? a good amount of disposable income in that demographic, skiing's not exactly a poor man's sport (in general)

I think it would be reasonable to keep the ad, but space it out more.

Ex. NS would keep track of the amount of NS hosted video you watch and the ad would appear at the start of a video only once for every 5-10 minutes of video you watch. Thats how mainstream TV networks seem to do it online (break the TV show up into 5-10 minute clips and show one commercial between clips). I find that very reasonable since regular TV has 1 minute of commercials for every 2 minutes of programming...

online ftw!

I have ad block plus but I turn it off for the soul purpose to support NS by enabling ads. But I agree with Ryno I hate when I watch like 3 NS hosted videos in a row and for each one I have to watch a 30sec ad even though the videos may be only a minute. The ad should be spread out to 5-10 minute increments to be less annoying.

The scroll over ad is also a bitch when trying to switch forums...and no I refuse to use the quick links because I always forget they are there and I am so used to using the top bar.

I used to be that way but I got to the point a few days ago where I couldn't stand seeing another one of those axe ads so i turned it back on.

You're correct about the difference between the 3rd party ads and the direct sales. A website gets a lot more money when the ad is bought directly through them, and not just through an ad network.

I think that nissan ad is direct and part of a larger package with some of the other sites. Because of our parent company, we sometimes get parts of other deals that are running across the Sportnet network, not just directly on one site. Those are good for us too, as its a direct buy with our parent company, and yeilds much higher than the network buys.

Hah this shit confuses me sometimes. :)

OMG MY BRAIN IS JUST LIKE KDSGNIETJ436IOKJWLKSENR28903HQ4NREQ2ONBRKJASFDBNLSIKURTHB4WUIHBIW3UTRTRWRET RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

But yeah that Nissan ad cracks me up, knowing that the vast majority can't buy a car and if they can, they'll just get a subaru anyway haha

it's not worth watching the videos anymore. This site has gone to the shitter because of all the ads.

Honestly, the site has a "cheap" look to it when banners surround absolutely everything.

well, I back when I was a kid NS used to have videos WITHOUT ANY ADS. ahhhh, back in the day.

But seriously, everyone should upload to vimeo, or ns shouldn't have sold ad space in videos.
