Pre-season / early season workout

Hey gals,

I want to hear about your gym routines. I always like to incorporate new things into what I do - especially if it is ski-specific.

What are your go-to circuits / routines for training? Would be sweet if any of you pink names are fitness instructors :-)

I usually go with the following:

- start off with a 10k cycle (aiming to complete in 20 minutes)

OR

20 minutes skipping

- cross trainer / stepper for 10 mins

- balance/jump circuit (bosun bounces, weighted bosun balances, hurdle jumps, etc) 10 mins

OR

- full body circuit (squats, pylo jumps,TRX, weights, etc)10 mins

Share your workout! Would love to hear from any of you who love the gym as well as the mountain. Also - during the season do you guys train in the morning before skiing or in the evening afterwards?

My favorite workout that I think really helps with the balance part of skiing is putting your feet on a bench and hands on a exercise ball (that is the same height as the bench) and stay in the up position of a push up. Keep your butt low, back flat, and abs tight. Hold for 30-60 seconds. Trust me its way harder than it looks! You can make it more challenging by doing leg lifts or actual push ups for those 30-60 seconds. :)

Awesome post idea!! Can't wait to hear all of the ladies' workouts!

As for me, I never really worked out pre season in the past. This year has been different though. I have taken up triathlon training (my triathlon was yesterday actually!!), which is awesome for an all over body workout. A lot of the workouts have included sprint intervals, biking hills, and swim intervals. The past months have allowed my body to build the endurance that I want to bring onto the hill. I also do yoga every morning or every other morning, so that's helpful with the balance aspect. i'm planning on trying to focus more on early season workouts now that my triathlon is over. Which means squats...... I hate squats hahaha

You need to look up Kayla Itsines. Her workouts have changed my life! She's all about plyometrics and body weight+ short but intense periods of exercise. My legs haven't felt/ looked this good even when I was a racer in high school.

My faves right now are high jumps, burpees, double bench jumps, and jump rope.

Funny you should mention that - I bought the BBG just the other night and plan to start on Monday! Stoked. All those explosive exercises must really help jumping onto features etc. Really excited to get started :-)

Yessssss! Welcome to the team! I'm repeating week 9 because I was sick for a few days. They are so hard but oh so worth it. Double bench jumps changed my fear of popping onto something, now I'm really excited to get onto some skis! And my butt is looking bananas. Praise the Lord!!

eat pizza.

drink beer.

go skiing.

If that doesn't work (which i would hope it does...) here's my option 2

INSANITY CDs. you can find them online so you don't have to actually purchase the disks. They're no joke.. usually do a long run or fartlek depending on the day before insanity in my offseason (offseason= 5-6 weeks of winter break fall college athlete for ya)

Insanity is basically a huge circuit with no weights needed just a room that you can move around in. I've done it in a dorm room! Lots of stretching, core, balance, as well as lower and upper body.

weee workouts
