Alright so i need a computer to last me for 4 years of HS (im a freshman.) Ive been doing a lot of research and i just thought of doing this. Going on ebay and getting a cheaper Powerbook, Get some more ram and probably an external harddrive. Any advice? Shold i get a different Mac?

btw im getting it for my bday in November and im paying for half so the price needs to be reasonable.

i purchased one, i am very happy with it my only regret is that you cant run boot camp on a power book because there is no intel chip

why do you need an intel chip?

the only reason i can see is for running wondows?

if your gonna be happy with the performance of a g4 for that time then there's no reason not to do this.

ok i just thought, i guess over the next couple of years software will be phased out for the g's... so that's something to think about.

anyway, i'm on a g4 mini now and still happy. for general stuff it's sweet.

Just look at a Macbook man, the intel chips are sweet and for students they start at $999, and you can always upgrade the RAM and HD later, or get an external.

befor you know it all new programs will only support intel and you wont be able to use it on a power PC.. i can see that easyly happening within 2 years 4 years for sure.

I love my g4 powerbook, and if you don't need the speed, then it's a great alternative to the MBP, and you'll save alot of money.
