I tried to do my own research first

now, i'm just looking for some basic info on car stereo power output. i'm researching to buy a new stereo for my car. all the specs give a reading such as X watts x Y chan. what is this?

i want powerful, clear sounds. help me ?

false, do not do this. the "self-amplified" decks really do not amplify to 50x4 (50 watts over 4 channels, 200 total). they are in fact closer to 16x4, which does not use the full potential of your speakers. if you want to do it right, get an amp that will take a signal from the deck and amplify it to 50x4, or whatever your speakers are rated to.

however, i have to buy a new deck. the reason my quality is so bad now is because of my current radio. so there goes roughly 100 bucks. i'm not totally sure i have the scrilla for an amp too. sooo suggestions?
 
don't worry about the power output of the deck. get a deck that has the features you want and make sure it will work for any future upgrades (subs/amps). The built in amp will be good enough to power factory speakers.
 
correct, the speakers will max a 50watts, buuuut, to buy and external amp to power factory speakers is imo a waste of money. You have to buy the amp, the wiring kit, and on top of that, get at the factory speaker wire to wire it all up. Too much time and money to amplify what are prolly crappy stock speakers that are likely to blow from being amplified and the bass turned up.
I just tossed a new alpine deck in. Really nice. It has built in ipod controls. my pod is always in my glovebox chilling and charging, and you are able to control all the features through the deck. Pretty nifty I think. Plus it matches my dash lights perfectly.
 
i have a pioneer head unit in my car that does 55x4 and that is plenty to push my stock speakers.just make sure that when u get and install the head unit, read the manual to figure out how to turn the built in amplification on. I thought it would be on automatically and was upset that my speakers still sucked until i figured out how to turn it on (look for features such as "loudness" for this)anyway, hope that helps and if u want, post up the decks ur looking at for help deciding!
 
hahha someone pick a good one for me. i want aux and usb capabilities. not too flashy. i have green dash lights so that'd be nice. maybe blue. and i want to be able to find it for less than a hundo
 
if you dont have the money and dont mind... take a lil snoop around craigslist and kijiji. buying used is a really great deal. yesterday i got used boat shoes and used nike soccer shoes for under 20 bucks yesterday(in great condition). if i bought the same stuff new it would have been just under 200.

i just looked through my locak kijij and there are 25 offers on pioneer head units... one for 40 bucks.
you can also chalk up and buy a whole audio system for cheap.

it doesnt hurt to look
 
Hells ya, I got my alpine deck off ebay. Best Buy sells a shit load of decks on there. Got mine which was 350 in the store, for 85 shipped. Came with all the harnesses and even the $50 ipod connection cable, which in the store they didnt. I Couldnt be happier.
