last night i was walking from my friends house (dubed 'the shelter - they're having a kegger tomorrow night for those in town) to the bar and saw some crazy light flashes in the sky followed by this wierd sounds... i guessed they were from the hill but others doubted me.

wake up this morning and the hill isn't open due to a power failure, what the hell blew up - and did anybody see it - that would have been a crazy sight.

Fortis BC once again.

The transformer station at the base exploded, pretty much. Fortis is working to replace the transformer at the moment, but we have no ETA. Such is life.

The Silverlode chair is running on the evacuation drive, which is the diesel plant, so it doesn't need power to run for the time being, so we're going to run that until 4pm until Fortis can fix the transformer.

RedMountain... no transformers exploded - any noise you heard were the attempts and failures to reconnect the power. Silverlode is not running on evac drive it's running on electric power and is connected to the grid before the substation that is having issues. As for Fortis... they've given us very reliable service.

Ahh, clarification :)

Thanks - I was told this morning that a transformer did blow and one was being sent in from Nelson.

As for SIlverlode, I just had to assume it was on the evac drive because it WAS running. Didn't think it would be powered before the problematic substation, but definitely good to know. I guess that's just one of the bonuses of it being a new chairlift.

The Paradise lodge has power at the moment, but I'm not sure about the base area yet.

Update:

Power has been restored to the base, thanks to the temporary transformer that arrived from Nelson. Unfortunately, there isn't enough juice to power the Paradise chairlift, so Paradise remains on standby until they can replace the transformer with a permanent one. Apparently, this will be happening tomorrow.
