Powder Skiing

So I'm off to Japan at the start of next year, and have decided that I need a new pair of sticks for the bottomless powder over there.

I'm 5'10 (178cm) and 75kg (165lbs) with a reasonably fast and fluid style. I'm not necessarily a park rat but I like to jib around the mountain throughout the season. Therefore I want a ski that is playful enough to spin and muck around in the powder. I'm not looking for an all mountain ski, but more or less a twin-tip powder based ski (110mm+).

I have visited nearby ski shops (+online) and have narrowed down a few options:

1. Line Magnum Opus

2. Line Mordecai

3. Armada JJ 2.0

4. Atomic Bent Chetler

I don't have a price budget at this stage and open to any brand of ski; as I feel quality is worth it.

Cheers!

Looks like a good list, and petty accurate for what you are looking for. Id maybe add the Jeffrey 112, I can't speak for how jibby it is but i can tell you they are bomb ass skis.

I would recommend K2's shreditor line. something like the 112 as stated above or the 120's and even the 136. I know the 136 might sound like a bit much, after owning 13' hellbents (132mm underfoot) and seeing that the profile is similar, I can say that theyre not as bad on the hardpack as one may think. good luck bro and have fun this season! that's what its all about

Thanks for the replies so far!

If you're looking for quality and durability check out ON3P .. The Jeffrey 114 or 122 would be best for what you're looking for.

Here's a video of the skis performing in Japan as well

In regards to the ON3Ps they sound and look very desirable. I guess the only problem is shipping from the U.S. to my country. But I guess you can't compromise quality! Have you skier the 122's personally? If so I'd love to here more about them!

Last year I tried the K2 Shreditor 112's. Fairly soft, so they were pretty fun to jib around on. Pretty versatile. I'd recommend them

Considering the k2 shreditors 112's I think they're a bit too "all mountain oriented" for me at this stage. Although, I have heard great things about them!

Two people mentioning the ON3P skis; there must be something good about them! At the end of the day I am looking for a more playful ski though!

I was deeply considering the 120's because they sound like a fantastic ski; but are they more of a hard charging big mountain line ski than a freestyle powder ski? I always thought 125+ was potentially too big, but I'm having second thoughts and maybe will consider some larger skis. Thanks man, I hope your season is sick as well.

Does anyone have feedback on the Eric Pollard Line collection?

nah imo they're a fat and surfy freestyle pow ski that has enough torsional strength to hit big mountain lines. they are a great ski. they're not even that bad on the hardpack if you know how to handle them. from the hardpack to the bottomless pow, they're a fun ski. as far as EP's line, I can say that they're pretty similar to K2's shreditor series, but that's about it. same concept

both 2015 lineups are in here as well as some shots from japan

its hard to tell but seans on the 2016 120's in this video, they have a burgundy topsheet and a black and white base

Shreditor 120 are a great ski, my friend has them and skis them as his east coast everyday ski from January through March

Hi guys, I'm off to japan as well. I was wondering if anyone has something to say about "Jskis The Friend" new powder weapon. Is it really enough for japan's bottomless powder? Dimensions:136-114-125 (Tip - Waist - Tail)
http://jskis.com/collections/friend/products/native

what size would you recommend for a powder only ski? I'm 5.6 feet / 170cm, 150lbs / 68kg (good skier)

Thx for your help

Are you looking for a freestyle ski to job on or a freeride ski to charge into?

I will use the ski only when there's enough powder, like in japan! I have to say that I like to jib and jump around. I'm looking for a playful freeride ski, which is wide enough to float easily in large amounts of new snow.

I red quite a few articles and reviews and I think the jskis friend are not the best in terms of flotation on a big powder day.

I'm 5.6 feet (170cm) and I'm starting to really like the atomic bent chetler in 176cm and the on3p jeffrey 122 (181cm).

Which size would you recommend me guys? Any other suggestions?

I appreciate your help.

Bent Chetlers are really soft and fun to play around on, I can't speak for the Jeffrey's but a lot of people like them
