Powder ski finder by AKKA - Kickstarter

Obviously you didnt click the link. you wouldt search for the skis, you would search for the skiier with your avy gear. The chips you put on your skis are a whole other device.

An MSRP of $200+ is a lot of money for the hope of finding a ski that isn't guaranteed to get lost in the first place. I like the idea but the price will need to come way down before it is something I would ever consider.

At $15 I'll stick with powder leashes. Less techy but they do the job in most situations and I can choose the colour!

I agree $200+ is a lot but this is a fairly practical device for piece of mind (go pros is a good one to use them on), but I mean they make $600+ ski goggles, $3000 carbon fibre skis, people will buy them.

I think he means that this whole system would cause interference of an avi beacon search. Heck, even my iphone causes interference.

it would be cool if they just integrated this sort of technology into a beacon so there could be like a find other person mode or find ski mode, with two different signals.

Yet another misuse of Kickstarter for someone who doesn't have the commitment to get conventional investment. And no-one is going to pay $200 for that system.

I'll say it again: put RECCO reflectors on gear, retrieve lost gear on the same day with help from patrol (who will definitely help you) and deal with any shit they give you.

this. recco and all these signal devices should be left for emergency situations only. they can save lives and work, but not if the mountain is peppered in the reflectors on all sorts of non man devices.

From what I've read on tgr recco already detects gopros, without adding a reflector. Patrol is generally happy to look for them as a practice exercise (which I suppose is valid to an extent). So whether or not that's your intent your gopro is already risking impededing your body retrieval.

Not a GoPro with a RECCO reflector on it, just a normal GoPro. RECCO detectors pick up most electronic items.

Im sorry but this already exists..so thats guys on kickstarter are trying to raise funding for something that already is on the market..
