POWDER MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL NOMINEES FOR 6TH ANNUAL VIDEO AND

READER

POLL AWARDS PRESENTED BY JEEP

*Three new categories reflect the continued evolution of the sport

**Awards party set for January 28, 2006, in Aspen, Colorado

San Juan Capistrano, CA‹Powder Magazine is proud to announce the

official

nominees for the 2006 Powder Video Awards. Considered the Academy

Awards of

the ski industry, this prestigious awards show honors the best

filmmakers

and top athletes in categories such as Best Line, Best Air, Movie of

the

Year, and Best Male and Female Performance. Additionally, the show

features

the Reader Poll Awards, which name the top 10 male and top five female

skiers of the year as voted by readers of Powder Magazine.

To reflect the evolution of the sport, the Powder staff updated its

categories this year, replacing ³Best Cliff Huck² and ³Best Trick² with

three new awards. The ³Best Air: Natural² category pits 80-foot cliff

drops

against stylish corked airs off of natural wind lips and tricks through

double-stage cliff lines. ³Best Air: Man-Made² will honor not only airs

over

park jumps, massive hips, road gaps and backcountry booters, but also

all of

the hard work that goes into building these unique features. Finally,

the

best rail trick, tree jib, or urban bomb drop will be named ³Best Jib²

for

2006.

With nearly 30 videos released in 2005, the competition for the coveted

awards is tougher than ever. The annual Video and Reader Poll Awards,

presented by Jeep and sponsored by The North Face, Aspen/Snowmass, Red

Bull,

Amp¹d Mobile, and Vox Vodka, returns to Aspen, Colorado, on January 28,

2006. The PVAs attract the biggest names in skiing to the Hotel Jerome

for

one special night. Don¹t miss it.

^ wow no sw9 Tanner over Chads? nose 540 was HUGE but...aaaa well it's a sw9 over CHADS! Personal preferances I guess, but no way Tanner won't win that, and if he doesn't I want to see an interview X-games style.

Yeah, both are fuckin insane tricks (same with his wilson flip over the pipe), but I just like how fuckin high he went and how smooth he was.

It goes to show you how much movie and magazine sponsors affect the awards though. I'm surprised there was no Whiteshine nominees. It has prolly the best flow, some of the best urban, and is really creative with lots of their shots, music, and segments.

I think they should have a few more sections also, here's a few ideas:

Most creative segment

Best line (park)

Best AM film

i really like those pics how they have some park stuff, but good big mtn stuff. im really glad msp didnt get all the votes, but same for shanghai 6. its sick to see the waiting game there, that movie looked siiiiiiick

movie of the year could go to anyone, minus hitlist

rookie could be dana flahr, he was sick

as usual, marc andre's seems to be left out of everything. volkl's even stupid enough not to put him in their ads, and he's their best skier.

the powder awards suck. every award will come from hit list because that was the most big-mountain centered movie this year

no, the awards will go to hitlist because matchstick will pull some strings. It is far from the most big mountain oriented film amongst those.

Where was Steele's segmment in shanghi six for best powder

that was some pretty sweet pow

Shanghai Six is the most popular movie of the year on the NS poll and didn't make the nominees - wow....Hit List better not win best movie over War or TBC.

Where are Douglas and Auclair for best line - their big mountain segments in War were insane. Why is Wilson nominated for his "double underflip" (if that's what it was) in Hit List when his one over the pipe in TBC was better? What about C.R. Johnson's 70-ft 360's in PYB for the best natural air? Ridiculous oversights.
