Pow Skis for Baker

I am more than likely going to be living in Bellingham next year and skiing baker. I already have some Line Blends but I am looking for some more serious pow boards to handle the more serious snow that Baker gets. I am 6'2" 165 and ski fairly aggressively. I am looking for more of a bc jib ski than a charger. Something with more life to it than my Blends. I have considered.

have I overlooked anything? What would you recommend?
 
I keep hearing that baker esploded. Im starting to think its true. So on that note you need to ask yourself how those skis will handle on volcanic rock, whether cooled or still molten. It rains alot at baker so expect the lava too be real thick and wet, maybe a crust on top~
 
does baker have alot of slackcountry? would it be worth mounting these skis with dukes or barons?

Make sure you have the standard lava base, with the heat resistant edges otherwise it's not even worth skiing at the mountain they used to call Baker.

But if i had to pick a fat ski, that you could mount some dukes too and go skining, probably something with a 115-ish waste, maybe an S6 or a Ruby,

But cash isn't an option, there is always the fabled JJ's!!!

I agree. Most excellent in powder, but I was astounded by their performance on groomed. Obviously nothing like a traditionally-cambered ski, but I was shocked by how well they did. Crud/chop are also no big deal. I know people who use them in the park. I wouldn't recommend it, but I can see that it would be possible.
 
well maybe i should take another look. or find some to demo. I was also thinking about mounting them with AT bindings so i was originally thinking something with a little less rocker might be good that's why i didn't originally consider hellbents.
 
ive never ridden bentchetlers, but i really want to try them out.

buuut, i'm a k2 guy so i'd look into some obsethed's or kung fujas for some all-mountain skiing

or hellbents for a pure powder ski ahhhviously

 
189 One Lifes. They are the re done LL2. Same sidecut mold, but with better sidewalls, a little stiffer throughout and more even flex, and a slightly larger rocker and now they have 8-9mm camber between the skis.

They will do better than most skis named when it's variable, and will charge through chop better than all the skis named like Bents and Chetlers(skied both, and hellbents don't ski crud well. just because you CAN ski crud well doesn't mean that they are good at it. I ski my 202 Lotus 138s a lot when a fair amount of the time I'm going to be getting through moguls and chunky ice, but that doesn't make them good at it). They will also do great in pow and have the biggest tail rocker of all the skis named so will ski switch well. Such well made skis, just looking at them they look like the best made skis I've ever seen.
 
I own both the skis I mentioned there smart guy. Show me where anybody wrote what I did anywhere on the internet before I posted that. I don't think anybody's even mentioned the One Lifes having camber yet anywhere online, and before they came I thought they were going to be the exact same as the LL2s I sent in for warranty. The *SURFACE member said same mold as LL2s, which most of us probably thought ment the exact same ski, but it's not(it's just the same sidecut mold). But yeah I copied all of what I said up above, that makes a ton of sense
 
do you feel the transition between stages?

it seems to me like you would notice that change and i'm not sure how that i would like that. it also seems to me that if the 3 stage rocker was such a sweet idea more companies would be doing it. but i haven't ridden them and have hardly seen them off the internet.

out of all them my One Lifes have the most pop, have the least problems in variable snow, and they are the easiest to land switch with. and yes, they are a MUCH better ski than the LL2 from the year before
and the Bibby came in a close second.
 
So glad you like the One Lifes better than the Caylors and Bibbys since I haven't been on either of those but was considering them when I got LL2s(and now One Lifes).

What length BIbbys did you try?
 
WRONG!

Billy Goat - A really fun quick ski that makes tree skiing effortless (and face it, effort sucks). Primarily directional, can handle pretty much any condition you hit on the hill. Obviously best in powder, but will amaze you in its ability to smooth out chopped up seconds.

Caylor - This is your bi-directional pow ski. You want to have fun jibing your way through powder? well then get this. Again it is a quick and fun ski to be on, but being stiffer then most others like it allows it to still hold up at speed, especially in the heavy (and often uneven) snow that we get in the PNW. Keep in mind that since a good chunk of the people at Baker fuckin rip, especially the boarders (who move more snow), a good chunk of the hill is well tracked by lap 2, and done by lap 5. This is the nice thing about the caylor, it can still ski hard and fast through those sloppy seconds, and thrashed thirds.

also as a final note

the Billy Goat was influenced by a cranky grump who thinks skiing switch and anything assorted to such is for ____________ (insert minority outcast whom you dislike and find humorously out of touch), this grump also spends a fare amount of time getting in, and then trying to get out of tricky situations, also billy goats around stevens pass a lot (in trees) hence the name.

the caylor was designed by Sam Caylor. Thats RIGHT Sam fucking Caylor. This guy IS Mt Baker ski bumbing. He skied mt Baker for years with out owning a car. Slayed the shit out of baker for a few years before getting involved with ON3P and moving down to Portland to slay the shit out of mount hood.

If you see this Sam, and don't like it, then get one of those two to delete it.
 
if Caylors are best for trees i'm confused as to what billy goats intended purpose is.

definitely gonna have to take a better look at those one lifes. is there a shop in Washington that carries Surface? I was in Evo this fall and they didn't have any in the store I don't think. I would like to check out which ever skis I end up buying in person before I buy them.
 
I was wrong, go with the Billygoats for your purpose. See what Billy has to say on the subject above!
And to the guy above, yeah Caylors slay Baker.
 
Caylors are absolutly a great ski for baker.

you could do both. If you like to ski switch, or prefer a more jiby feeling ski then go with the caylors.

If you want a directional supper quick all condition slayer, get the Billy Goats.
 
Caylors sound like just the ticket.

Thanks for the info Cobra that was exactly what i was looking for.Caylors are now at the top of my list. Any chance anyone that skis snocrummy or mission has caylors they want to let a kid take a run or two on?
