I've never owned a POV camera before and I'm thinking about getting one. I'd like some opinions on what people think of the GoPro HD Hero against the Contour but also if its worth spending the extra money and buying the HD Hero 2 against the HD Hero.

I've never used Gopro's personally but I've got a Contour Roam. It will save you a little money and it's a solid camera for sure. I've seen people use gopro's and they're pretty easy but the contour is just as easy to operate in my opinion.

easier really, just slide the tab forward to record, slide it back to turn it off, super simple

I bought a GoPro Hero HD and would suggest that you buy one 2.cI have used both the counter, go pro hero 960, go pro hero 1080. I have the say the go pro is just better everywhere, the mounts are fantastic and its just a super all around camera. If you can get your hand on a HD hero 2, then go for it, cause the video quality is even better with the bigger sensor of the camera = sharper image.

Out of the two, I like the Contour better because of the lower profile and It's lighter. The gopro is good, but in my opinion, it's heavy and interferes with your riding. You might also want to consider a Drift Innovation HD 170 Stealth. I have it and it's incredible. Do some research

the original gopro hd hero will do what you want it to. no need to spend extra money on the hd 2

ive got the GoPro 960 and i love it... Its like dirt cheap which is awesome if your on a budget, if you record on 960 and upload to youtube it recognizes it at 1080, or it did for me at least. the only setback is that it doesnt have the capability of the add-ons like the hd hero (lcd and battery backpack and the 3d hero) but i love it and for like $150 its totally worth it, but u can find the hd heros cheap too so its really just up to how much money u have

Yeah, if you're on a budget, the 960 GoPro is a really good deal. I got mine for like $144 shipped new, and the only setback is no 720 @ 60 fps (not like my shitty computer could handle that anyway....). But, other than that, it's been great. The mounts are so easy to apply, really strong, and the different variations and angles that you can use with them is awesome. I have yet to use it skiing, but the footage that I've gotten from it jet skiing has been really good and clear. I really like the 4:3 format at the 960 resolution over the stretched 16:9 at 720.
