Post count before making threads?

On some other forums, you have to have 50-100 posts to create your own thread. I feel like this would be something helpful on NS to stop the huge wave of spammers from cluttering up the forum with even more useless bullshit. Just my .02 cents that i think could help

I think it's potentially a good idea, as most of the threads your talking about won't need to be made once people become acquainted with NS, how it works and it's features. Rather than the current system where people come on, spend 5 minuets looking around before creating a generic thread that a little search barring or time spent on the site could prevent - like this one (https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/727613/) . Although arguably such an idea wouldn't work until the search bar is improved. Regardless, I still think it's a good idea.

exactly what i mean by it^ Once someone has been NS and seen how it works they most likely wont care to make the post's

I think if a mod sees that they could just nuke that member ASAP maybe? Definatley a good idea though. Even 25-30 posts seems like it would be enough to deter some kid wanting to troll on a saturday night.

i vote yes. i highly doubt someone will go to all the trouble to post 50 times and still want to troll and spam

You'd be surprised. I think TGR has one or they used to have one and people would definitely spam to get their 'X' number of posts. I think it was/is only like 10 or something, but people would still spam

We want every member to feel like a part of the community from day 1. A lot of "new" members are people who have been visiting, lurking, on the site for a long time, who for one reason or another finally join because they have a reason to join a discussion. Forcing them to then have to wait another 50 posts before they can create their own is a discouragement to join at all. The problem of spamming is pretty easily dealt with lately by our mods, forcing people to make a bunch of useless posts simply to be able to create a thread would likely increase the "spam" issue within existing threads.

While your solution does address a small problem, it opens up a much bigger issue and doesn't really get us any further ahead.

If you see spam, simply msg a mod with a link and it will get taken care of
