Possibly malicious popups

I've been getting these popups on NS recently. Mostly they'd happen on the splash page when I click to enter the home page. I just got one clicking on a forum.

Notice the URL. Something is redirecting an NS link to open the popup as that NS link.

I've posted about them in another thread but I don't think that got any attention.

They're flash based if that helps.

They don't appear with adblock enabled, so if it's a problem on your end let me know when it's solved and adblock will be turned off again.

yea I thought it might be. but the fact that it only ever happened on NS and that it doesn't happen when adblock is enabled leaves me to believe otherwise.

well it was more simple than that. guess I should have researched first before assuming. I hadn't updated my flash player in a while. It was an exploit found with the older version I had running, soon as I updated it doesn't happen any more. still strange it only ever happened on NS, even with adblock disabled everywhere else.

I just got an REI pop up that covered two full scrolled pages. NS's popups are extremely annoying, I can see why so many people run Adblock anyway.

if anyone gets the same thing I had, couple tidbits of info:

-make sure flash is up to date. They stopped coming up once my flash player was updated.

-reset browser to default state. perhaps not necessary, but I did it anyways. this was recommended for these specific popups.

-not a virus. did thorough scans with 3 different well known virus scanners, found nothing. plus it stopped after flash update.

-as far as I can tell they're coming in through a legit content delivery provider (Akamai) using some sort of flash exploit that was possibly fixed with latest update.
