A SENATE committee in the US this week heard evidence that internet pornography is more dangerous to society than crack cocaine.

A report on Wired, here, quotes numerous 'academics' appearing before the committee, urging it to do something to tackle the problem.

Pornography addicts can face more difficulty coming off their habit than coke users, said Mary Anne Layden, Center for Cognitive Therapy at University of Pennsylvania. Whilst coke users can get the substance out of their bloodstream, pornographic images can linger dangerously in the mind.

Other speakers included Jeffrey Satinover, who advises the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, a board which aims to cure many homosexuals, in order to 'bring their desires and behaviours into harmony with their values'. He stated that pornography was dangerous because it caused masturbation, which was itself more dangerously addictive than heroin.

Suggestions for reducing the problems of internet pornography in society included placing advertisements on buses stating that 'sex with children is not ok'.
