Pop-up saying I won then redirected to spam website.

next time you see it screenshot and post here. We get rid of those as soon as we know about them

I don't know if this is related, or if I scrolled over the top ad and it summoned this little box. So if it's that second thing, then I'm a noob. But if not, maybe this will help?668834.png

It's still happening.

Happened again. Only happens on NS. The last time I was on facebook with 'my threads' open in the other tab and it directed me back to ns to click on the pop-up.

can you check on your machine and see if you have a piece of software titled PC Tools Optimizer or something similar installed?

Also can you make sure your Browsers and Java plugins are up to date.

So far is nothing direct that we're serving

Just got a screen filling California Milk ad that I couldn't get out of without getting creative. I feel like people are going to keep/start using Adblock if you can't get this stuff under control preemptively. It just makes the site look like shit and it's got to be an ass pain to track them down after the fact.

The issue is that it's really hard for us to do anything when 99% of the time it's happening on the other end. We're doing our best though.

So you can't make a blanket request for no pop up ads or something like that? They are site degrading and encourage things like Adblock which I imagine costs both parties a significant profit.

So this hasn't gone away. I was just using my mums computer (Which is fully up to date on flash and chrome) and it happened again.

The issue is that a lot of these are simply just spam / malware and not actual ads we're running on Newschoolers.

That's the thing, we do have a blanket request in place for none of these BS flashing annoying popup type ads, which is what makes this so weird, and hard to track down. As far as we can tell, we aren't serving these.

you just have a shitton of junk in your browser. newschoolers isnt doing it, if you just visit some sketchy site it puts those in your browser. probs from pr0n

I've been getting a shit ton of these lately. Just cleared my cache and cookies, so hopefully they'll go away...

I've been getting the same ones b.aussie has. I'm a web dev by trade; next time I get one I'll try and look into it a little deeper and see if I can help ya out at all.

Is anyone getting autoplay ads in the sidebar? I keep getting like travel and diaper adds. Getting super damn annoying.

You're getting them to now eh? I get them pretty often. Mostly in the video section or the home page. I also get the fucking dumbest most irrelevant spam adds now to.

Stuff like:

It would be nice if I was at least being hit with ads that followed my searches but this shit is just getting crazy.

683675.pngMight be me, might be NS, but I got this too. I'm on osx 10.6.8 snow leopard, chrome. Is there something you guys recommend to see if I have some sort of adware? I accidentally clicked some add about some power generator trick. When i went to x the tab it brought up that stupid, elongated window and message asking if you're sure you want to leave with all the ************* and caps lock use and such.

Also is everybody else getting the ads that I'd expect from myspace in like 2000 or the 90s? They're hilarious. The thing i clicked was like "power companies don't want you to find out about this easy trick to save money on your bill." All of them are the same. I've seen it like "Language teachers hate this trick to learn a language in 3 days' or something. Same as the ones that are like, if you kill this cute sheep you win a prize and when you scroll over it you get a sight. So lame.

Double post, but don't click this one, by accident or on purpose. I suppose they'll be trying to sell me an engine of greater than 100% efficiency soon too, or some sort of perpetual motion device.

Do you honestly think that's us?

There's nothing wrong with using adblock if your computer is full of malware, but don't point the finger at us afterwards...

It's hard for us to nail down stuff like that when it's an isolated event.

Are you still getting them? Has anyone else gotten them?

is anyone getting the thing where random words are highlighted and underlined in orange and when you mouseover them it shows an ad? im getting really sick of it.

shit sorry, it was an un NS related virus, i googled it and was a very easy fix. on an NS related note though sometimes i get pop up surveys.

Good to hear.

And yeah, those survey's are created by us. We generally only have them "popping up" for a couple weeks a year, and then disable it. It also won't pop-up with everyone -- I'm fairly certain it's completely random.

Thanks! Looking into it now -- if anyone else sees the same ads can you PLEASE post in this thread and let us know?
