Poles no poles

The comments section was of surprisingly good behaviour.

My thoughts; do whatever you like, but with poles it IS harder so it should be rewarded in comp scoring.

they don’t make an argument of explaining why poles are even needed in the first place then? If they truly hold you back and make grabs more difficult then why would a competitive scene enforce them if they hold back progression?

It’s like if skateboard comps said, “well he was wearing ankle weights, which is more difficult so he should be awarded more” or “he’s using roller skate wheels and plates for his trucks so it should be rewarded more.”

Like shit, if they make freestyle more difficult then why do you need to use them…

Also I’ve found that most people new to the skiing world / outside of it, on average thinks no poles looks more stylish.

I am aware that some people do have major pole steeze though.

The poles are part of the challenge. Its all a matter of perspective.

Why don't they just make F1 race courses like Nascar's? They would go a lot faster. More about the challenge of driving those corners at that speed. In skiing it is the challenge of going for strange grabs with poles in the way.

skateboarding is a bad example because its waaaaaay more self regulated then skiing by whats "cool" and what isnt.

I have no skin in this game cause idgaf about big air comps but I can see their point, if you want to do no poles spinny flippys why not go invade aerials? Hugo also had a really good point about intentions, it's not like people in these comps are dropping the poles because they think it's steezier and how they want to ski, a lot of them probably are doing it just because it gives them an advantage.

tl;dr its a competition, they should clearly define what is and isn't allowed or make 2 different poles vs no poles classes. honestly this just highlights how dumb serious freeskiing comps are at a conceptual level

Honestly don’t know why this debate is still big. But then again, i don’t care or have a big opinion
