Point of pivoting bindings

This probably sounds stupid, but what is the point of having the tail piece move on the fks bindings, and the look pivot bindings.

It makes the binding more elastic. This allows for better retention at lower din values when compared to less elastic bindings. The turntable heel also seems to allow for smoother release but that is not really quantifiable.

They do not release laterally at the heel. That is a misconception that about half of NS seems to believe.
