We will be working on making the menu fully compatible with firefox (I'm a firefox user myself).

As for getting rid of the autorating, I agree that it does skew the results, this should be easy to change.

I am going to be the person in charge of site modifications now that Harvey has left. We have alot of ideas for great changes but they will take time. We first have to go through a bit of a transition with how work is assigned and reported, it will no longer be very centralized as when Harvey was still around.

Before any new features can be added (or old bugs fixed) we are going to be doing some server tuning and back-end site upgrades.

You will all notice many good changes to NS in the comming months. We are all really excited!!

Hey all, well since I havn't yet been formally introducted here is my informal introduction.

The name is Paul. I met Harvey in college and we've been skiing together since. I also bike and ski with MacMahoooon, one of the moderators.

From time to time I've offered Harvey advice with Linux or network problems and he trusts my skills. When he knew that he was no longer going to be with NS he recommended me as a 'replacement' coder for NS.

I've been a member of NS for years, tho never really participated in the forums. That is about to change. I'm super excited to be part of the NS team and want to do everything possible to help the site grow.

I will be frequenting the the 'Site Discussion' section of the forums to see what members are saying about the site. This feedback is definetly useful to us so please keep it comming!

Hey guys. Yah we would love to bring back NS radio. But first we have to work out some licensing issues.... Artists have to eat too apparently. ;)

How about adding a Mid-Atlantic/Southeast section to the regional forums. These regions include resorts like Snowshoe in WV, resorts in VA and a few in NC. Its not much, but better than nothing. I know there are several other skiers on the site from these areas.

yah, the forum lacks alot of the features most other ones have. LIke the ability to post pics from your hard drive, edit post, use those gay little smilies, and such. here is what i have seen on other forums, and would love to see here.

Polls, this would be a great tool, and could solve the whole bush kerrry debate. (at least a little)

in the forum listing, you should be able to scroll over the thread, and read the first few sentences. this is great, because you dont have to waste time on threads that are just spam, or if the title isnt very discriptive.

again, posting pics is a pain. one or two isnt a problem, but its a real bitch to do multiple ones.

on the top link bar, you should be able to jump to sub-catagorys instead of having to go to the 'forum' page or such.

also, he number of members has gotten Sooo large recently, the 7 forums are pretty unfocused. i suggested a rolling forum earlier, where it just focuses on current topics, like the olympics, bush/kerry, or jibberish. there should definatly be a buy sell forum, so that people looking for equipment could find stuff, and people who are selling dont have to distract others.

I still just have no idea how you can mistake your dick and a chicken neck, let alone not realize what you are doing. -manus

Hmm... Ok, I've been hearing alot about changing the forums. We have been talking about this and we have two options available to us.

First is to revamp the forums to include all of the lacking features such as smilies, GUI assisted HTML editor, editing posts, picutre uploades, etc...

Or second we can grab some other open-source forum and modify it to suit our needs.

From my standpoint, redoing the forums from scratch or using a 3rd party forum that can then be hacked up would be the easiest and quickest way to upgrade the forums with modern features.

In addition to the cosmetic and feature changes that are requested, there is alot of work to be done on the back end if we were to upgrade our current forum.

We are open to both options, what do you guys thing? Re-code of the forum from scratch or using an open source forum?

If you add edit post make it so you can only change it for like the first 5 minutes after you post it. Also if you recode the forum keep it lookin the same, don't just copy one of the forums we see on every other website.

Thanks for the feedback. If we do decide to use a 4rd party forum it would be modified to integrate into the site the way the current forum does. ...We would probably rip out the smilies as well. ;)

I like Skier10322's suggestion: If there is an 'edit post' option, make it only be active for 5-10 minutes after the post has been made. people going back and changing their posts throws off the flow of the threads. If they can't get it right the first time, too bad.

Also, on Macs the drop-down menus turn transparent when you move the mouse over them... it gets a bit confusing! That should be fixed.

to be quite honest, i enjoy the fact that ns is less teeny-im ish than other forums. the lack of smiley faces all over the place is something i enjoy, not despair over. the 5 min post-change thing would be nice, but if it is a big deal to do, we have lived without it for a long time. the site is good in its simplicity, and while i would welcome most changes in the name of progress, i implore you to rethink the emoticon idea.

i think there should be a 'next' button in the pictures where you can just look at one after the other without having to go back. the forums now are fine without emoticons or an easier way to post pictures. if you made those easier to use, both would become abused. also, you should update a few sections under media such as 'games' and 'radio'. either bring it back, or take it off

i had this but only 1 person looked at the thread...a nice addition would be column that says when the last post in it was made, sometimes cults go inactive, and instead of checking it every so often in the forums, just have it there on you're cult page, cult name, forum, grand master, # members, last post date
