Planning a trip to fernie...

So this is my first ever mountain trip, and I'm not sure how ready I am. I've skied a little pow, but it was Manitoba, so...ankle deep. I bought some '09 Anthems, so that may help a little, but I don't know.

Any tips for a first timer?

fernie is sick,

stay inbounds and off closed traild and be prepared for some serious snow.

and if your old enough party at cowgirls in calgary!

If you're driving, drive to other areas besides Fernie, which is fine for a day or two but hit Red Mountain, Go up to Revelstoke and Kicking Horse as well.

Ignore their avalanch warnings off to the sides of the blue runs! You'll see what I mean when you get there.

this is only true on weekends (sat, sun) and holidays.
even then, if you know how to traverse and dont mind sking through semi thick trees theres always pow

Why are so many Manitobans all dick hard for Fernie? Either way, just be willing to hike a bit, and traverse and you will find good snow depending on how the weather has been. Also, like was mentioned already, try to avoid weekends and Alberta holidays.

I have no particular love of fernie, I'm just going on a school ski trip. Hell, they might go to Sunshine. There's no chance of of getting fatter skis, my budget is locked down for the trip. And on Anthems, those bindings have no where to go but center. And to answer an earlier post, yes, I'd like some advice on skiing powder.

Your going to want to lean as far forward as you can! No just kidding. You dont really need advice to ski powder for a weekend. You'll figure it out sure enough when you get out there! It basically just like skiing groomers but not as aggressive of shin pressure. *Note: I only ski powder like 2 weeks of the year so that may be completely wrong...*

Don't lean back to keep your tips up, keep your weight on the balls of your feet and stay center. Keep your arms in front of you and your shoulders pointed down the fall line don't act of fool. I'll keep your mom company in the lodge don't worry about that.
