Hi ns,

I'm leaving the east for 3 days and heading to snowbird in march. Are there any good buildings to stay in near snowbird (LCC) that aren't $400+/night?

cheers!

No

You're not going to find any cheap lodging in LCC. You'll have to stay in SLC and commute through the traffic like the rest of us

Residence Inn by Marriott Salt Lake City Cottonwood

Free breakfast, 9-10 miles from the bird, $175/night, not too bad. Just get up really early and hit the road?

Just find a hotel in slc you like. I’ve stayed at the downtown quality inn and for $90, it was pretty alright. Nothing special but it worked.

$175 for staying in SLC is expensive. So many comparable options at half the price.

I did an extremely cursory browse on kayak and was looking for places close to the canyon because I know traffic gets crazy. The one place that showed up near the base looked amazing and was $1600/night CAD so when I saw the residence inn at $250/night I stopped looking. I didn't realize how inexpensive hotels were there, it's a weird place.

Its simple supply and demand, people want to stay closer to the cottonwoods, which honestly is a huge waste of money. You're gonna get up at 6am to go skiing regardless, driving an extra 15 mins from an area where the hotels are much cheaper is the play.

Sandy, Murray, Midvale: Cheap but relatively close (5 min drive to mouth)

Downtown: Slightly more expensive, 15 min drive, but has bars/food near you

Mouth of little: $$$ for no reason

The $1600 place at the mouth of LCC was probably La Caille. It's a super fancy hotel with a very expensive restaurant and winery on site

It also looks like the only place they could fit the gondola base

Yes. La Caille is in bed with a management corp who has a full expansion plan for the gondola. Same corp that runs gondolaworks. Also same corp that is paying Josh van jura heavy because fuck it own udot.
