Places to stay in portland & Bend

It looks like my husband and I are finally going take a trip our to Portland the 1st week of august. We might drive up to Bend for 2 night to check it out and then spend 5 nights in Portland. I need help finding good places to stay in both Portland and Bend. Thanks!!!
 
in bend i'd stay at the riverhouse bc its sick and fancy, but kinda expensive.... pretty much any hotel is fine though. not really any rough neighborhoods to be aware of.
 
word, in bend check out the river house, ameritel inn, and any other hotel pretty much. If you want to be at the oldmill or downtown, check the phoenix inn, or the ameritel.
 
dude, trust me, stay at mcmenamin's in bend! it's an old catholic school turned into a hotel/movie theatre/restaurant/bar compound in downtown bend and it RULES. they have couches in the movie theatre and they'll bring you their own brewed beer and cajun tater tots while you are watching a movie! and they have a big soaking pool... multiple bars... it's just rad.

and if you guys stay there, i'll join you for a beer!

Thanks!! This place looks pretty cool!! We are trying to figure out the details of our trip. We are going for 7 days so right now we are trying to figure out how much time to spend where.
 
If anyone has any input on planning a trip because neither of us have ever been to Portland or Bend. Here is what we are looking for: We are flying into Portland on tues 7/31 and flying out on tues 8/6. We are going out there from NYC to see if we want to move. So we are going to probably spend more time in Portland and trying to get up to Bend for a couple of days to check it out. We want to look at houses for sale in Portland check out the different neighborhoods(especially SE). We also just want to get the best feel we can in 7 days on what it would be like to live there, as well as maybe go check out Mt hood. I know we don't have too much time but to get a feel of Bend,Portland,Mt hood how many days would you spend in the different areas and what are the must do's???
 
in bend atleast, if your into outdoors things, and site seeing, definetly check out cascade lakes highway, you cruise by bachelor, broken top, and the three sisters, lots of lava flows, tons of trails, and many really cool lakes. dunno to much about p town tho... but lots there to
 
a lot of hotshots with crotch rockets bomb on the cascade lakes highway... also when your in bend drive or hike to the top of Pilot Butt right in the middle of town and you can see pretty much everything. (only takes like 5 minutes)
 
So we are going to stay in Bend for 3 days. Is it better to stay in the downtown area or at the Riverhouse Resort? We were going to stay at the St Franics School but they are all full.

the real thugg thing to do would be not even reply at all cause travis heed hates NS, and he iz (note the Z)the definition of black thugg.
 
doesn't matter, you'll probably be driving everywhere anyway. the bonus to the phoenix is that their backdoor leads right to downtown, so you can party and walk home. come to think of it, that sounds like fun! do that.
