Dear Vail Resorts,

Let me explain to you why I will not be returning to this resort anytime in the near future and will indicate to other families on online forums that they should decline to come to Vail as well.

As you are aware, marijuana is now legal in Colorado. I have been visiting Vail and Beaver Creek for many years now with my family, and enjoyed all my years here with no real problems. We have a lot of memories here. Within the span of several days, my son and I were exposed to numerous conversations on buses, gondola rides and restaurants related to recreational drug use. The fact that people are restricted to smoking pot in the privacy of their room doesn’t mean that they won’t reek of pot on gondola rides, or that they won’t be talking about getting high with numerous other substances within earshot of numerous families. Within the span of two to three days, I had at least three to four separate occasions in public areas where I had to specifically ask people to not talk about their drug use. People were obviously put off by my asking them to stop, and I was furious to even be put in this situation.

I think the public debate on allowing pot to be sold is completely off. The people who live this type of lifestyle can’t afford to support resorts like Vail that frankly cater to a demographic more like my own, and candidly, you don’t get to be successful by engaging in this type of lifestyle. Why am I going to pay to come to a resort where my son is exposed to these sorts of things? I don’t want him skiing or going anywhere on his own — he is a teenager, and why should he be shaped by these types of conversations?

Not only this, but it’s a safety hazard. Do you think I want people speeding by me on the slopes who were high the evening before?

I really recommend you get this situation under control as quickly as possible because word will get out to families very quickly. At this point, I’m very much inclined to go to Utah for my vacations instead of Colorado. You can’t be a destination resort for high-earners and a pot-town at the same time — you have to choose.

This is some total bull. I've been going to vail beaver creek my entire life (Local) and maybe twice has the smell of weed been really appearant. And if you're kids cant control themselves they shouldn't be allowed to ski. She aint even fuckin know. THIS IS COLORADO. Weed is legal bruh.

the funny thing is she just blasts weed because it has been illegal for a long time, but doesnt address the bigger issue of drinking and skiing in which you can buy alcohol at on mountain lodges and ski down...she is clearly blinded and uneducated on the issue

Haha, the effects of weed last for like a week. Atleast thats what i read on the internet. They cant put anything on the internet that isn't true.

this is just like the situation at A-bay earlier this season when they were forced to start pulling passes off this shit. Now that it's "legal" people turn straight into dumbasses and think they can do whatever they want. No respect for others around them. Just have some common courtesy and you'll be fine.

hey man...i have a question...if you are 21 do you buy beers on the mountain? if your not do you talk with your friends about how drunk you got last night at your HS party? how bout asking your friend for a cigarette in public? do we want to censor those conversations too? legalization has created an atmosphere where there can be conversation about these things...all in an effort of "normalization" in my opinion. dont be a hypocrite

lol shes complaining that she has to hear some peoples conversations about use of pot and other drugs, this happens all the time at almost every resort, its funny that people are so fucking up tight that they are appalled by the fact that their rich ass has to hear some kids talk about how good of a time they had the other night.

This ladey has a very good piont and frankly i do believe resorts should be controlling pot usage on the hill to create a safer more family friendly enviroment. I know most of you would disagree but if i had a son i wouldnt want him subjected to these things. Also this is a case of lack of respect if your in with elderly people or a family please try to keep it g rated they dont want to hear about the amazing sex or pot you smoked last night or how you took 20 deep hits on a vape and held each in then took 4 shots of everclear and where on your ass for the night.

this woman clearly doesn't have a firm grasp of reality. would she be equally pissed off if she were subjected to hearing the same conversations in other similar more or less public situations i.e. subways, busses, trains, etc that the rest of the world uses?

Oh wait, that's the reason public transit is under funded, the rich don't use it.

I fully agree with this woman. I wouldnt want my family hearing this hit and smelling weed throughout my family vacation, especially at such a high end destination resort.

Iv smoked my fair share of pot back in the day, but weed smoking culture is one of the most ignorant sub cultures on the planet. Talking to a pot smoker about why pot is bad or should be illegal is like talking to a boston sports fan aka the wall.

Lol people need to grow the fuck up. Come on MOM... Other people on this planet have differing opinions and values than you do. Is it thattt hard to ignore them? Plus i ski Vail all the time and it is not as bad as she is making it out to be. I would love for you to vacation in Utah.

yea good luck, you cant stop people from talking about something you simple bitch. And she obviously is a tight ass stuck up cunt and im sure her angel son is prolly popping roxys let alone smoking weed.

high last night lol. Wonder how she would feel about me ive been high for years

im from NY id love to have a talk with her about this

god I hope she doesn't come here. We've got enough of entitled, rude east coast transplants already. plus the weed use is just as rampant as Colorado lol

She has a valid opinion. These resorts are supported by families taking vacations, not park rats... The legalization thing is a good thing, but it can cause some sketchy situations. If they can pull passes for drinking on the hill and being intoxicated while skiing, than the same should be applied for weed. Aaaannndddd let the hate start to pour in now!

I need to smoke on the hill no bullshit

If i don't smoke i get killer migraines, like puking on my hands and knees for 6 hours bad. If i take a couple puffs over the course of the day I NEVER get one.

I wouldn't go as far as controlling usage, people are gonna do what they're gonna do. But I agree that people should definitely tone it down a bit if there's kids/families present on buses, lifts, etc.

On a different note this lady is full of shit with her perception of the poor stoner type and that Vail is a place for rich "proper" people. And i feel bad for her kid
