art shows are pretty good at getting your work showcased. But then again your schools photography classes would need to be in the art department and not the dam industral tech department with some washed up hag who only cares about exposure of b/w film. HAHA like it's hard to expose bw properly.

one day I walked in to ask him something about my slide film and he didn't know what slide film was. I was laughing so hard at him. I just wanted to know the effect of having slide film developed in color processing. like what colors would do what. I've some what learned since then.

haha, yes, i guess i am good! just kidding. i had some pics up in a starbucks, just cause my teacher has a spot she can put good stuff down there. if you've got a good teacher, ask them if they have anything like that. also, enter LOTS of your stuff in LOTS of shows, contests, etc. The more stuff you enter, and the more things you enter them in to, the more you'll get known. and as far as doing the actual photography, have your own style, and be VERY patient in the darkroom. the more time spent the better your prints will be. oh, one more thing, print BIG (11x17 or 16x20)

an OLD school pentax 35mm. i do have an old medium format camera from the 50s, but only use that sometimes. it takes amazing pictures, but you can't change the lense, and i only like using wide angle lenses. i've got some really nice (but old too) lenses for my pentax. i also only use 50asa film, no grain at all!

the whole thing is giving your pictures away for free initially to make a name for yourself. that's what my friend dolan does and now she gets cash for a lot of her shots. its a gamble between do you wanna pay a high price for a photo by someone who's popular or get it for free w/a shot that's almost as good...she told me they usually go for the free shot.

There isnt much money to be made in photography. A full page shot in Freeze pays like 250 bucks, powder is a little more...kinda pathetic when you realize companies adds cost thousands of dollars per page, i am not sure on a ski mag but i know a full page in newsweek is like 50grand and a photo pays 300. Best thing you can ever do for photography if you arent shooting a moving object with a high shutter speed...long exposure time with a tripod will give you a better picture ever time. Get a greater depth of field which will make any picture seem a lot better. Read up on films and stuff then make sure to keep it refrigerated...finally the key is going to a good lab not walmart. Make sure you know who is developing your film not some moron kid making minimum wage. Some huge labs do a great job cause they have the best equipment BUT they lose stuff all the time. A.I. lost like 5 rolls of slide film i shot this spring, i was pissed all they did was give me some credits for free developing and replaced the film. As for getting your shots displayed, coffee shops and stuff like that are the easiest, schools are simple too. I have a friend who has a show in a gallery right now, she got it by having a portfolio and just walking in to places all the time and showing it. You need a large portfolio displayed in a professional manner if you want anyone to take you seriously at a gallery.
