I have always had a interest in photography and would really like to start soon. Does anyone have any words of wisdom to what camera to get? I want a solid camera that can take some incredible photos with out breaking the bank. Cause I am a college student and don't have money to throw around. Something between $200-$500 would be perfect. Thanks
 
Besides the media arts point, my first camera was a Canon Rebel and that it worked great for me getting started into photography.
 
Nikon D3000 (or D5000, depending on price point) or Canon Rebel

Its just a matter of personal preference. Personally, I like Nikon and wouldn't use anything else.

Try them out before you buy. It comes down to what you are more comfortable with (e.g. Menus, Settings, Ease of Navigation, etc.)
