Hi. I was wondering if some people could help me out... I am taking a photography class in school. And i was wondering if people could give me a ideal beginner set up. Dont work about budget or anything along those lines. Just tell me what to get from slr camera, lens, tripod, software, to any upgrades. Thanks k+ for who ever helps. sorry if it is a repost.
 
A rebel or used xxD series camera (like a 50 or 40d) with a 28-135 and 50 1.8 would be a good setup
 
im a nikon guy..its basically all personal preference but how i look at it is nikon=photography and canon=video. pick up a D3100 or D3000 and just use the kit lens that comes with it. its a pretty solid camera. then get one of the best lenses out there especially for the price at 120 dollars. the 50mm 1.8 and im pretty sure anyone on this site can say the same thing.
 
Being a nikon guy i'm prone to say get a D90 or a used D200, with the 50mm 1.8 and go from there but i've been regreting going Nikon since i saw the 5D mk2 (not gonna lie).
also, 1337. can you make a flickr? all i read about is how you've bought brand new shit and am interested to see what you do with it.

i've seen those a few times. A few i like. But i mean, when all i see is you posting around NS like you're the photo guru, i dunno. It confuses me that you don't have more work.
 
i don't mean to sound like a jerk. Not what i'm trying to be. I'm saying, you know your shit and i can't wait to see how you apply it to your photographs, especially with all the equipment you're packing =D

no worries man, it's true and i'll be the first to admit it. I'm so pumped to get out and start shooting around town
 
First off, congrats on deciding to put some money into a nice camera, it is definitely worth it. Here are a few tips.

1. Photographically, nikon and cannon will produce extremely similar shots. You should really have a hands on experience with both brands before making a purchase. Go for whatever feels best in your hands.

2. If your looking to take high quality video, go for a cannon, probably a t2i. If your thinking about this, make sure you are willing to learn about the camera, it is more complex than a Rebel Xsi, xti, nikon d40, etc.

3. If you want to take photography a bit more seriously and are willing to put time in effort into it, buy the camera a step above the one you think you need. You do not want to grow out your camera too quickly.

Good luck on your decesion, it can be a difficult one.
 
I have a canon rebel xt with a battery grip and I like it pretty well. I shoot sports for my school newspaper (3fps bleh) and it serves it purpose pretty well. My friend has a nikon d40 (pretty comparable in specs to the xt imo) and I really don't like it. In the few times I've handled it I just didn't like the layout and the shutter almost felt sluggish. Personal preference though
 
Why have a flickr if you are just going to put up product shots and memes?

Also, it doesn't need to be sunny for your camera to work.
