I have always had a interest in photography and would really like to start soon. Does anyone have any words of wisdom to what camera to get? I want a solid camera that can take some incredible photos with out breaking the bank. Cause I am a college student and don't have money to throw around. Something between $200-$500 would be perfect. Thanks

i prefere nikon but other people will tell you to go with canon.

i shoot with the nikon d40 and i get some amazing pictures out of it. i dont really know much about canons other then the fact that they have a lot of different color setting options. i think that nikon has an easyer layout as to the way you set everything on the camera also

i only know canon so my opinoin is gonna be bias, but as for canon point and shoots

go with the Canon G9 or even better the Canon G10

as for DSLR- i got a hell of a deal on a 40D refurbished with a 28-135 IS lens, but if youve never taken photography classes, and arnt familiar with any things such as ISO, aperature, shutter, and general functions a Rebel still takes good pictures, even though its considered a consumer camera ive seen some awesome pictures

those all cost well above $500.

i shoot with a nikon D60 and it takes incredible, high detail pictures. its very easy to use, everything is intuintional. it also has a somewhat fast fps at 3.5, which is the fastest for this price that you are willing to spend. if you have any other specific questions just pm me. hope this helps.

i'll be the canon advocate here and say you should look at a used high end rebel. used XSi would be a good choice, you can find that for like 510-520. 3.5 fps, high ISO, big screen, 12mp. but then you gottq think about lenses.

i would recommend getting used a canon rebel or a used d40x/d60 you should be able to find something for a decent price. and as far as the canon nikon thing goes it doesn't really matter what ever you can find a good buy for. and another factor for getting a camera is if you have any prior lenses or have parents/relatives/friends with lenses that you could either buy or borrow so that could potentially be a large factor of what brand to get.Good luck getting a camera.

i prefer canon, but whatever you get into is what people usually end up sticking with. i have a Canon T1i, and i get some really amazing shots with it, but browse around places like vistek online and e-mail some tech guys and they will get you a great deal on a great camera.
