Photo tip: When using digital or any SLR's learn manual.

No i just saw somebody's pics and they sucked ass and you could tell they just auto'd it when they coulda set the shutter to like 150 or 250 and been fine.

I use Av mode all the time.

that's not fully auto. that's aperature priority.

Yeah I know. I just use it because it's the easy way to control DOF and I can easily monitor my shutter speed.

Makes sense to me. But most kids these days just want to get good, fast. And they think by buying the best or high end equipment it will do the work for em. Gotta cut your teeth with media pictures, before you can really appreciate and use a DSLR properly

Whoa, forgot the original thought of my post. It's that most kids dont know how to do use all the functions of their cameras. They just buy it, put it to Auto, and snap pictures from angles and try and look artsy

Thanks You should definitely look into going! I was originally going to stay for 1-2 months, but then got a job there and stayed on for half a year. It was probably the best time of my life! The only downside is that plane tickes, accommodation, etc. is not cheap. I had to work for about half a year before I went, but it was definitely worth it! Check out www.africanimpact.com for volunteer-projects in Africa. Traveling around with an overland truck (Gecko, Dragoman, Absolute Africa, etc.) is also very cool, but by staying at one place for a longer period of time you really get to know the people, area, etc. You hear all this bad stuff about Africa in the media, and while some of it may be true, the people there are just so friendly and fun, and the scenery is stunning. Im gonna make a new section with tips about volunteering in Africa, etc. and extend some of the travel tips a bit. But right now Im just too busy with exams and stuff, so maybe in January or so...

i use aperture priority most of the time. but i do shoot in manual when i'm using flash.

The main thing is to use what works for you, I shot aperture priority for a year, got plenty of amazing shots. Just learn how to meter what your shooting and adjust from there. Photography is more than "you should only use manual controls", or "you should only do what the camera tells you" it's about making the best shot you can given your situation. Use what works best, post your work and get feedback on your stuff. This photo tip is baloney, and the dude stole my name.
