Phones Without Headphone Jacks

As expected, the new iPhone is debuting without a 3.5mm headphone jack. This is now phone #2 to do this (Moto Z), and arguably the most impactful phone to continue this daunting trend. There are rumors that Samsung is prepping for the same elimination on their redesigned line, possibly further confirmed as they cut headphone jacks from their TVs.

What are your thoughts? Are these companies trying to redesign the future and going all in on wireless? Are they monopolizing consumers into a shittier experience so they can save a buck and sidestep one of the more undependable components in electronics?

I like my wireless headphones that i use for skiing, but the new apple ear buds look shitty. You look like one of those douche bags with a bluetooth in your ear, but you got them in both ears. Also, what happens when you lose one? $160 more for a new set? Like come the fuck on.

Now they have wired ones, but it uses the lightning port, so you'll probably have to buy a $50 adapter to use your own headphones/have to buy some Beats with lightning cables.

You'd think that these companies would be a little less greedy, don't they make enough money already? now they wanna push their accessories on you, sigh.

I'd say it was a smart move on Apple's part. people who have iPhones are going to continue to buy them and it's just going to help Apple fork in a ton of money with the lightning adapters and $160 earbuds.

but on the other hand, I think if ever company moved over, it would work. just use something like usb-c instead of lightning. it's much more universal and has a plethora of other benefits. plus getting rid of the 3.5mm will greatly improve audio quality coming from phones.

but I think to do that this early, and continue to use lightning, is a dick move on Apple's part. hope iPhone users realize the benefits of Android and start to move over. maybe that'll smarten Apple up a little.

Samsung better not be doing this shit too. Ill be fuckin pissed.

And i know captain obvious will be too because the headphone port is the only hole he can find thats small enough to fuck

Apple is cancer. I'll just be chilling out with my droid and $10 skullcandy earbuds while all the sheeple drop hundreds on Apple's accessories and bullshit. The IPhone 7 is still going to sell like wildfire because society is a bunch of robotic minds.

The wireless headphones is a just a god damn scam, Apple are fucking scums in trying to squeeze every dollar out of you. They have technology to make waterproof, and screens nice enough not to get fucked up, but obviously they won't do that because they lose profit. Funny how every company comes out with the same thing at relatively the same time? Thats because they all have the technology to make changes, they put pressure on other companies to make a bold move. Meanwhile, I'm chilling with my GS5 while all you robots are hooked on iPhones that haven't changed in 6 years since the iPhone 4.

Word, this wireless charging, shatterproof screen, and ridiculous battery life have sure been nice for the last four years. I wonder when apple will catch up lmao.

lets all get mad about smartphones!

In the past five years, I think I have actually used my headphones with my cell phone less than 10 times

It doesn't hurt my feelings if they get rid of the jack

MEH.

It was bound to happen and in the long run having all or mostly wireless headphones will be nice. However, Bluetooth needs work if everything's gunna start depending on it. Let's face it, it's a pain to connect and cuts out too much. It's hard to beat the trustworthiness of cables... Give me an easier wireless system and I'll be more stoked on the wireless movement.

Also, why the fuck aren't the AirPods connected?? Shit's gunna get lost in a heartbeat. With the charging pack that's three pieces that can get lost and without any they're useless. That's some BS.

I have a set of Outdoor Tech bluetooth earphones and love the connector cord on them. I tuck the cord connecting them behind my neck and forget they're even there.

If you ask me, Apple jumped the shark. But again, MEH. It's the money that talks so let's hear what sales have to say.

Im not, I don't have an iPhone lol. Just Apple is full of greedy assholes that can do whatever they want because people buy into anything from Apple.

On a separate note, why did Apple buy Beats anyway? They aren't doing anything with them, and now that they are changing the headphone jack I feel like Beats would loose some decent profits.

My iphone 6s plus (closest comparison to most android phones) battery lasts forever, the smaller iphones just have small fucking batteries.

Im an android person, but have been using an iphone for work reasons the last 4 months. Theyre more or less the same, each have positive and negatives.

I really don't see the problem. Technology is moving foward. People had to switch from tales to cd players to mp3 players. I can almost guarantee there will be "headphone jack iphone cases" I don't listen to music except for my car and I already have a wireless adaptor for that. I think apple just wants to make the phone waterproof and dust proof. Also the 2nd speaker isnt even a speaker, its just a grill that looks like one. Now that pisses me off.

This idea will fail until the market can produce wireless headphones/speakers at a low cost.

they do. you can find wireless earbuds for less than $15 on amazon. although they might not be the best quality the price is about right for how long they'll last you.

Im pretty sure the phone is going to come with the adapter for the 3.5mm jack from what I've read online about it.

Im hyped id rather it be water proof than have a jack and you all heard it comes with an adapter right? So what's the problem?

Its not water proof, it "water resistant" aka you can hold it out in the rain and it wont break, aka any phone from the last 10 years.

The lightning port, speakers, earphone and home button are definitely not waterproof, just like a headphone jack.

apples lack of care for sound quality is a big reason why i switched to sony a couple years ago...

It's definitely a move to the future, but I'm not happy about it now.

It's fine though, it's not like headphone jacked phones are going anywhere. I'm happy for people who get way too excited about new tech to have their wireless earbuds, but I'm gonna wait until they don't cost as much.

Haha and here I use mine every day. I just switched over to a Samsung so I could care less but this concept is ridiculous.

Im aware its not submergible but splash proof. either way, I think its dope not a big deal there is no jack when apple switched to lighting people shit a brick and it was a change for the better.

I've been saying it for a years now bluetooth is the future. It will eventually be incorporated into every common object, as we are seeing more and more already.

Supposedly this is to free up room inside the phone for better speakers and battery space. Every component you add takes more space and the headphone port does take quite a bit of space.

I think this is a natural progression. There's really no reason to have so many different cords anymore when you can run anything through lightning or USB.

This like I don't get why people are getting so upset about it? And it's not like you're phone is charging when you're listening to music unless you have roommates or you're studying or something. Using the Lightning port is pretty much the same fucking thing and wireless headphones are pimping especially for skiing.

To be honest it would have been better if they also added wireless charging to the phone would be relatively cheap for them to add it. Kinda stupid they haven't added it yet to be honest. Also if they are taking the charging port away if you want to listen to some good wired headphones you're kinda dickered. Sure it has a better battery life, but that won't matter when you wanna charge it and listen to music and have already lost your wireless earbuds.

This is kind of another shitty year for new phones in my opinion.

Oh so then you can't charge it when you wanna use normal headphones?

Im sure we'll all get used to this eventually, but for now im gonna bitch and moan as much as possible.

haha and by eventually you mean like a month right. Apple is notorious for making people think they will hate there products but then you still buy them and love them

I'm hoping there is enough backlash that apple goes back to having a headphone port... but who knows. I have an iphone 6s plus, im good for awhile.

Lol I highly doubt that's going to happen. For me it's really not that big of a deal. I'm sure there's going to be a splitter made so you can use wired headphones and charge your phone at the same time. I feel like everybody is bitching just to bitch I don't see it being as big of a deal as people are making it seem.

yeah I really doubt Apple would ever go backwards... this will be the new industry standard in a few years

Your opinion docent agree with mine so fuck you

I'm pissed because I just might be the world record holder for losing earbuds, so usually I just go out and buy super cheap ones at gas stations and I'm good, this basically defeats that for me. Also, any road trip where I'm listening to music I keep my phone plugged in charging, so that habit is out the fuckin window for me. I COULD solve it by using the wireless earbuds, but I'm not dropping a hundred something dollars to get cheap ass apple earbuds without the cord that a. make me look like a fucktard and b. I'll lose within a matter of days.

^ yep, plus they send one with the phone.

In the coming years, I bet most all companies will move away from wired headphones.

The speakers don't change, the "speaker" where the jack used to be arent actually speakers from what I've heard.

The "water resistance" isnt a big deal imo, androids have been like that for a while. If there wasn't an adapter people would shit a brick, but the fact they felt they needed to make one means lots of people are going to hate it. Apple are just greedy fucks

Idk I see it a little differently but i see where you coming from. I'm hyped on it tho. You guys have your opinions and i cant change em so you do you boo.

I don't like being forced into using bluetooth headphones, but I feel like it'll be a transition that'll end up working. Only problem is that Apple's new headphones are fucking ridiculous. They're $160 and they'll get lost in the first hour of having them. What's the point?

For all the people saying "it comes with an adapter, it's not a big deal", you're wrong.

Having a life proof case on my gs5 I've learned that ever having to use an adapter is a bitch. Some aux cords are too wide for the case and it isn't easy to just take it off. This is only some the time and it's a bitch when you want to play a song in somebody's car without the hassle of pairing bluetooth.

An adapter is just another thing to lose or forget. This is quite comparable to apple getting rid of the standard hdmi on some of their laptops. Just a minor inconvenience that doesn't need to be there.
