Help us support the cause for a new NBC reality show.

Its going to be great, starting Bob Costas, doing whatever it is that Bob Costas does when he isn't insulting the participants of two olympic sports.

So.... on every single thread on this site we call each other newbs, and fucks, and trash each others everything, say im going to bang your mom, post memes about how much your post sucked, your flip sucked, your trick sucked, your style sucked...

and yet.. you all feign anger at a 65 yr old man, who, like almost all of our parents liken our sport to Jackass because they dont understand

Costas is an unreal reporter, are you really going to pretend to be offended because he said slopestyle is like jackass? (which is also a show 99.9999999% of this site loved, so who cares)

Obviously NBC isnt going to pay Luke VV millions to report on slopestyle and the olympic announcing isnt going to statisfy "us," but if you ask me, Costas is 1million times better than the fraud Sal Maskakela.

Remember, calling out a switch right dub cork 14 might make sense to us, but anyone who isnt well ingrained in the sport (IE. 99.99999999% of olympic viewers) it means absolute shit. You're going to see a lot of dumbing down of our sport... and that aint Costas's fault.

I think people were more offended by the fact that costas comparing slopestyle to jackass makes it seem like the athletes have no idea what theyre doing and are just hucking themselves off of big jumps and seeing what happens (like what they do in jackass). We just want the world to know that skiing actually takes incredible skill and practice

What wrong with sal masakela? I always liked that guys reporting. he might not be a skier but hes a really good surfer and defnitely "gets" our sports more than bob costas ever will

i'm going to break down all the things wrong with your post.

first of all, yeah we all call each other all that shit, but as soon as someone comes in and starts disrespecting the pros, the sport itself, etc, they're getting downvoted. not many people are in the video section saying your trick/flip sucked etc as well without other people calling them out on it.

it's one thing for our parents to compare it to jackass, it's another thing for someone in as powerful a position as bob costas to. his reach is to millions, his sway of opinion is massive. he says it, people will believe it. you think that there won't be people who turn on slopestyle and disregard it because of what he just said?

why shouldn't we be offended? this is the sport that most of us on this site would kill for. people dedicate their lives to this shit. millions of die hards every year are out there gettin faceshots after a nice skin, landing their first dub, etc. we don't pour ourselves into a sport for someone to say it's just a bunch of shenanigans. imagine you just finished a piece of art that you've been working on for the past year and someone said "ha that looks like the napkin i used to clean my kitchen table with last night." it's insulting, yes.

how can you possibly say costas is better than sal masakela? costas is an old fart full of piss and venom, at least masakela genuinely loves all things extreme sports. yeah he might not know too much about skiing, but he understands the love of the sport that people have for it and probably shares some of that love himself.

and why do we have to dumb it down? have you ever watched the super bowl? the refs explain all of the penalties in so much greater detail to cater to the wider audience you'd think they're reading it out of the manual. people like to be informed and know what's going on and they should be. the announcing should be just as well for any other olympic sport i.e up to date with the terminology. the figure skaters and gymnasts seem to be able to explain their shit. i'm all for taking a pro skier who didn't qualify and letting them announce alongside LVV. i could identify tricks better and faster than the most announcers at big events.

People are taking his asinine comment way too literally. I'm not trying to defend the guy but everyone is getting way too butthurt about a meaningless comment coming from someone who doesn't understand on any level.

The funny thing is, my 84 year old grand father, who ski raced for much of his life, understands it more than Costas. He always thought my videos were cool even if he didn't fully get it. We watched the Grand Prix on TV together around Christmas and in 5 minutes I explained the basics of technicality, style and what makes a good run or bad run. Him and my Grandma totally had a grasp on what was going on afterward and seemed to really enjoy it.

Instead of bitching and moaning about one silly comment take the time to explain it to someone who may not understand, whether its an older relative or some curious gaper on the chair lift.

In the end, who really gives a shit? I get it, we're all worried about how our sport will be portrayed in the Olympics but if you are all really this salty about one comment, you need a reality check. Laugh about it, slope will clearly get the last laugh in this one not Costas.

He's like 52 or something. He's only got, like, 5 years left to live. The problem will take care of itself.

I think one of the things that irks me about it is that this is a guy who knows there are new sports, that people will be watching and talking about them, and who has access to an incredibly large staff who can research things for him at his whim. If he'd bothered to ask, he could have had a five page summary of the history of ski slope, the basics of how it works, what the tricks are, etc. for him to take a half hour to read over and prepare himself.

How, when you're NBC's face of the olympics, do you utterly fail to do this? How do you have that little respect for your job? It would require so little effort, and yet apparently, it's not even worth that.

And this is why he should be made fun of until we're good and sick of it. If he's ignorant enough to say it we can at least have some fun with him. I could give a fuck but I think it's hilarious to mess with the guy and make him the butt of a whole industry's jokes for a while.

I don't get it. Half the people on this site talk shit all day about the Olympics, including a few people who could potentially compete in Sochi. More than a few people have alluded to the fact that free skiing was perhaps never meant to become an Olympic sport. Yet, as soon as someone outside our sport suggests that, just about everyone here flips a brick. I think Costas is right; I don't want what I do to simply be connected to some heavily regulated, somewhat understood Olympic sport, and I definitely think I'm a jackass.

If nothing else, we need people like Bob Costas to call us jackasses so that we can turn right around and say "fuck you." That's what's going to keep our sport what it is. If suddenly every family in America is familiar and friendly with freeskiing, we're suddenly a lot more like baseball and much less like skating, snowboarding, or any other "extreme" sport.

no, no, we're doing that, I just don't think it should be arguing that skiing IS an Olympic sport or that we aren't necessarily jackasses. maybe I'm mixing opinions on different topics though.
