its true.. johnny cash is a favorite of mine, and he is totally guilty of the three chord song... (sometimes two chords) but in his case i love the lyrics that talk about coming up poor in southern missouri, and his experiences in life. nirvana could sort of fall into this category, of being primarily lyric driven. but neither they nor pennywise are on a johnny cash level when it comes to writing, or the distinct vocal delivery of cash. i understand that punk bands play simple songs, generaly. i am just not that thrilled to hear thiry year olds from orange county singing songs that are niether complex lyrically or voacaly. and i must admit that i havnt listened to any album in its entirety after about time, and most of my ill feelings are based on the fuck athority song, about which i have ranted bove, never the less, there are alot of punk rock bands out there that are more talented, and more politically aware(if thats what youre looking for) than pennywise. i really liked them when i was 14, because the complexity of the lyrics and the music is about on the level of your typical 14 year old angst filled 'im mad at my parents' suburbanite kid. i think that if i wasnt a musician myself, i could still stomach that kind of sound, but like i have said before, its just not my cup of tea anymore...
