Pennywise owns it. All of their stuff is good, even the super early stuff, and although Word from the wise/wildcard is kinda weirdish, it's got the best Stand By Me cover on it EVER. Just get everything Pennywise has ever recorded, it's ALL good.

on their live album they say 'how many of you have been listening to pennywise for the last 16(not sure if it was 16, but it was around there) years' so they're at like 18 by now.

i was 14 in 1994, and was a big fan of the self titled album, unkown road and about time... then i just lost interest.. then they came out with that crime against punk rock 'fuck athority' at that point i said to myself, 'gee, this band has not only not changed their sound in seven years, but they also have come out with the most cliche song i have ever heard in my entire life.' that confirmed to me that i should not waste any of my time on that band anymore.

anewmorning if you listened to them you would see their progression and how fuck authority came about, the band has progressed and always has been and always will be a great band

Gotta Love The Midwest

im pretty sure that there is not too much musical progression going on in between the early albums and whatever they are doing now.. they are a punk band, and thats just ho things go. when you only have 8 notes to work with, what more can you do. i may be wrong but i dont forsee pennywise incorperaing a dm/cadd9 chord to the middle of one of their generic anthems of teenaged rebellion. i will admit that they are pretty darn fast... but so are 80's glam rock bands... and as for fuck athority, please dont try to tell me that that is a worthwhile peice of sound... can you get anymore generalized than the lyrics to that song? it makes me mad, cause i used to like them...it just strikes me as a song that a 7th grader could write in 10 min with out knowing anything about anything... 'hey kid- here in 10 minutes write your best rebelious song...' 10 min later you could have somthing comperable to fuck athority. just because a band uses the same proven combos of power chords in every song does not make them good... ' i know in this song we will play g, d, then c, and in the track after that we can play c, then d, the g....' genius! there are 23094713049713409173240917409 better bands out there... but this is all a matter of opinion, so like em if you want, or dont.. i just dont.

its true.. johnny cash is a favorite of mine, and he is totally guilty of the three chord song... (sometimes two chords) but in his case i love the lyrics that talk about coming up poor in southern missouri, and his experiences in life. nirvana could sort of fall into this category, of being primarily lyric driven. but neither they nor pennywise are on a johnny cash level when it comes to writing, or the distinct vocal delivery of cash. i understand that punk bands play simple songs, generaly. i am just not that thrilled to hear thiry year olds from orange county singing songs that are niether complex lyrically or voacaly. and i must admit that i havnt listened to any album in its entirety after about time, and most of my ill feelings are based on the fuck athority song, about which i have ranted bove, never the less, there are alot of punk rock bands out there that are more talented, and more politically aware(if thats what youre looking for) than pennywise. i really liked them when i was 14, because the complexity of the lyrics and the music is about on the level of your typical 14 year old angst filled 'im mad at my parents' suburbanite kid. i think that if i wasnt a musician myself, i could still stomach that kind of sound, but like i have said before, its just not my cup of tea anymore...
