I've been looking into it since I cant go to school till next fall, and sitting around working a job I hate sucks.

Anyway has anyone done it or know anyone that has? From the looks of it its pretty hard to get into so if anyone knows a good alternative that would be nice to know about too.
 
Have a few friends that did it. They all seemed to enjoy it. My one friend was on the Kazakh mission when it was shut down because one of the corps members was raped. Moderately difficult to get into.

There are a ton of other Americorps programs you can do as well. Some not as hard as others to get into. I know someone who got money to start an urban cycling program for youth in Reno.

If you want to travel abroad and are not stupid (not just book smart) and have a clean background, look into Foreign Service. The Foreign Service Officer Test is ridiculously hard, but if you make it through selection it's supposed to be an amazing career. I'm probably going to take it when I finish my grad school program.

Also, most of these programs require a four-year degree so get on that if you aren't already.
