PC Monitor Randomly Shuts Off

For some reason, every now and then my monitor will act up and it will turn black. If I turn the monitor off then turn it back on, it will come back on for about a second and then shut off again. If I turn my PC off and wait a little bit, everything will work fine again. Any ideas?
 
check your power management see if it is selected to turn the monitor to black after the comp has been inactive.

you might be running too high a refresh rate

or your video card is overheating
 
it could have something to do with my video card over heating cause it tends to do this after i have left my computer on for awhile with it being inactive. could it be that my fan has too much dust on it?
 
could be, buy some of that compressed air in a can and give it a good shot.

i doubt you've messed with your monitors hertz have you?
