Pay the Police?

So I live in New York State and it happens to be a state that pays its officers quite well. Now I for one do not mind paying someone for public saftey. What I do mind is paying police officers that are not qualified with starting wages of around $50,000 and full benefits. I recently came across this recording and article about a man who went through a DWI checkpoint (in california where cops are payed just as high as in new york) and basically had all of his civil rights shit on. I have been in a situation similar and its really shitty.

Pay a officer a starting salary of $50,000. Thats fine, but the selection process better be more in depth than taking a test and having 60 credit hours of school at a community college.

-> Local PD Recruitment letter

Deadline for test registration is March 16, 2011. The test will be given on April 23, 2011.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements (Note: other requirements are listed in the attached exam booklet):

Must be between the ages of 19 and 35 on exam date

Resided continuously in Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua County for at least 90 days prior to March 16, 2100

60 college credits hours or 2 years of continuous military service

[/list]

The Buffalo Police Department offers excellent benefits to becoming an officer. Salaries range from $48,895 to $64,095, benefit packages include health, dental and optical coverage, vacation/sick pay, retirement plan and a continued education stipend.

Now I know, I'm mad.

And no I don't hate all cops, just the overpaid d-bag losers, who abuse their power as a police officer

nothing pisses me off more than crooked cops who think they are above the law. It doesn't help that some people get scared and just allow them to search all their shit too

i think saying 50,000 is a bit low, some places in new jersey cops are paid around 100,000 a year and i think especially in new york they get paid around there i mean i dont think they need to get paid over 100,000 but the do get shot at and put their life on the line to save peoples asses.

and yea some cops are huge dicks and my dad is cop and says how big of dicks some of the ones he works with sometimes are but a lot of the time there are some really good ones that i would want having my back if some asshole broke into my houses and was holding a gun to my head

Definitively not around by me. A lot of towns are cutting laying off police officers by me including my own town and there is talk about towns merging to share police resources. The hierarchy of police in the town next to me are incredibly corrupt though, the chief of police and the range master are being sued by another cop.

Yea they make 100,000 after 10 years of work. If they start at that in new jersey thats fucked. The lowest paid cop in my town is like 65,000 and hes fucking 23. Nothing goes down in my town ever. They will be lucky if they have to pull their gun once in their whole career.

I should have been a cop

i'm a cop killer. /claim.
but seriously...like every other profession out there, there are good ones and bad ones. we just have to roll with the punches and understand our rights. simple as dat right durrrrr

a cop in my town just got arrested. his hard drive was seized and they found hundreds of thousands of kiddie p0rn pics/vids. they also found a stash of weed in his safe. he would take the weed from kids and then keep it for himself. fucking prick.

in that link that you posted, the reason the guy got into shit was because he was jus abusing the fact that he didnt have to say anything. when asked how much he drank and then saying "i dont want to say anything", it sounds like he has something to hide. he made a stupid decision by opposing the officers, if he had just cooperated then he could have avoided the whole situation. dont get me wrong, i hate cops. but this guy was just being a total faggot and just exercising his rights solely for the purpose of denying what the officers wanted. thats not a victim, thats a shit disturber.

I have no problem with what he did. If you never exercise your rights you will lose them. Most DWI checkpoints are non constitutional he was just proving how much so. We need people to ask question about our government and systems to keep it in check

What you don't see in that posting is the level of selectivity. Sure, many, many people may qualify based on those parameters, but when most people take law enforcement tests and shit, and actually are ranked on performance, well... you'll see that most are actually quite qualified. Then after academy, well, you're talking about somebody who is far more qualified.
