So I live in New York State and it happens to be a state that pays its officers quite well. Now I for one do not mind paying someone for public saftey. What I do mind is paying police officers that are not qualified with starting wages of around $50,000 and full benefits. I recently came across this recording and article about a man who went through a DWI checkpoint (in california where cops are payed just as high as in new york) and basically had all of his civil rights shit on. I have been in a situation similar and its really shitty.

Pay a officer a starting salary of $50,000. Thats fine, but the selection process better be more in depth than taking a test and having 60 credit hours of school at a community college.
-> Local PD Recruitment letter
Deadline for test registration is March 16, 2011. The test will be given on April 23, 2011.
To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements (Note: other requirements are listed in the attached exam booklet):
Must be between the ages of 19 and 35 on exam date
Resided continuously in Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua County for at least 90 days prior to March 16, 2100
60 college credits hours or 2 years of continuous military service
[/list]
The Buffalo Police Department offers excellent benefits to becoming an officer. Salaries range from $48,895 to $64,095, benefit packages include health, dental and optical coverage, vacation/sick pay, retirement plan and a continued education stipend.
Now I know, I'm mad.
And no I don't hate all cops, just the overpaid d-bag losers, who abuse their power as a police officer
