Please take a quick minute to fill in your information to send a letter to your local Senator/Rep asking them to vote for the Shield Act. This act will help harden the electronic infrastructure of the US from EMP threats both nuclear and natural. ALL YOU HAVE TO FILL OUT IS YOUR INFORMATION, THE LETTER IS ALREADY DONE FOR YOU!

Good thing I live in Alaska where I am both:

a) of no interest to "terrorists" as a target, and

b) able to live off subsistence fishing/hunting if need be.
 
its not. an EMP only lasts 60 seconds and takes a 15 streak of kills to aquire, it also doesnt affect frendlies
 
i rly dont get why this is such a big deal, it is the least used killstreak anyway. everyone just goes chopper gunner > nuke. there is also a 0.87% chance of it showing up in a care package so dont worry
 
Honestly, that would be about as bad as it can get. I don't even know where we would start. You couldn't pump gas, a lot of cars have computers, communication would be pretty much nonexistent. I would actually say that this is an act that should be passed.
 
Apparently according to that video the EMP wave only spreads east to west leaving Canada and Mexico unharmed..yesss

well, i duno about you guys, but everywhere i go and every day i keep planning my zombie apocalypse tactics. this wouldnt be much different.
the key things would be guns, a bike/skateboard water and food and getting a water purificaton system would be key...
so im guessing the best thing for me to do is get some people, get some food and get on up to my cottage. thats shelter and by fresh water. hunt for food after our supply runs out.
then when lots of (dumb and useless) people die off... move back to the city and colionate with the strong surviving humans.
i also think the major problem would be that everyone would become crazy, killing for their own families. its just not the EMP gettin you, its everyone else who wants to eat as well.
 
Having no electricity is far from a worst-case scenario.

Having cities flattened by an A-bomb would be far worse.
 
Obviously an atomic bomb is terrible, too. However, my problem with the EMP is that the country is suddenly so vulnerable (not like the power goes out, this is a long time). Suddenly all of our missile defense systems don't work and the Pentagon can rely no commands because their electronics don't work. And the way I see it, if a country is willing to use an EMP on us, they're probably likely to bomb the fuck out of us after the EMP.
 
All good points. I'm just saying the EMP itself is far from being a worst-case scenario. Either way, I'm really glad I don't live in the continental US.
 
I'd say not knowing anything would be better than knowing everything. like the good ol days...just one foot in front of the other
 
Read the book One Second After. It's fucking incredible the things that would happen after a possible strike. You have no idea how insane it is! The cycle of population die off, the terrible shit. Get a hold of a copy! If you contact EMPact after sending a letter to your reps they will most certainly send you a copy of the book for free!!!
 
The only way I would ever use EMP is if I was playing competitive, and everybody knows that you're a prick if you opt to use killstreaks in competitive. I hacked the EMP emblem though cause it does looks cool as fuck.
 
i imagine the defense department and pentagon made preparations for emp's resulting from nuclear attack back in the cold war.

imo this sounds like fear mongering, for someone to pull this off they need a very sophisticated intercontinental nuclear missile or a emp weapon, the days of state warfare is over and theres no way a terrorist group could build either of those.
 
I don't think thats the same thing. Or it is the same thing and they're trying to scare people into letting them police the internet more by terrifying them with EMP's.On another note, does the technology even exist to EMP a country as large as the US?
 
i was on my computer using the new firefox. youtube videos don't show up on the new firefox for some reason. from reading the thread, i had just assumed that they took the old sheild act and added EMPs too it.
 
Yes, if anyone can get a nuke above the US it will be a certain area. The higher the nuke is detonated the more surface area of the earth struck (think about it like holding a flashlight over a table, higher it goes the more area gets light shined on it). One over each coast decently high would destroy us (likely to be terror cell or rouge state). A country with nuclear capabilities could get one into the earths atmosphere (>300 miles) and that would get our entire continental US and obviously chunks of Canada and Mexico.

If shit hit the fan I would immediatley collect guns canned food grab my waterfilter and backpacking supplies with. Some winter clothing to and head my ass up to the T Bar warming hut and live up there for a bit until shit calmed down either that or the section house or janets cabin think about it the mountains are th best place to hide especially in a zombie appocalypse

Nobody has ever really attacked america very hardcore ever. And it make sense why they wouldn't, we could wipe their country off the map with a military as overkill as ours.
 
I could not be a lawyer. What are they saying with that? Basically they can invade in on peoples internet privacy?

congress has been trying to pass bills to police the internet for a while now and they keep doing so under the guise of the threat of terrorism.
