Parties in utah?

I'm going to University of Utah next year, and while I was applying for housing I noticed that they don't allow any alcohol anywhere on the campus, including fraternities. I'm not a big partier, but weed and booze are part of the college experience! For the people that go there, do you just party anyway? Or is the whole place just completely dry?

you drink? should've gone somewhere else man thats not gonna go over to well with many people here!

Most schools "don't allow" booze on campus. Chances are they wont exactly advocate smoking weed either. Almost every kid on campus will tell you those rules do not matter at all unless you're a fool about it.

Well if you're wicked good at sneaking it you can drink mouthwash and get pretty fucked up!!!
But don't let them catch you....
P.S. you can even buy it if you're not 21 at like CVS and stuff.

Most colleges have dry campuses, but i usually drank 3-4 nights a week in the dorms and the homo frats drink all the time.

nah the homo frats never drink but the dope ones do all the time actually there is only one dope one but fuck frats if you wanna ski but if you wanna party all the time and not ski join a fraternity and go to school somewhere else. dont come to utah to go greek come here to ski even though greek row is where all the finest bitches are. id much rather ski than fuck any day and thats why i came to utah.

didn't know there was such a thing as a cool frat... oh yeah they're the ones who use an alternative, non drug-based form of rape! always thinking healthy those cool frats!

no partying in utah ever. sucks. gotta ski all the time.

dont join a frat .... you can drink/ smoke everyday in the dorms if youd like ... frats have parties all the time but the guys are bros and the girls are hoes.. but theres always shit going on outside of campus

ordinarily there would be parties. but since there is only 3.2 around....people spend more time in the bathroom than actually drinking....so its kind of an issue.

Every Canadian university that I know of has at least one campus bar.

Utah is seriously the worst place in the world I've ever been for partying. In the entire world. No joke. Malaysia was way rowdier and more fun and that's a muslim country. A few of us were staying downtown on a Thursday or Wednesday night and there wasn't a single bar open. The snow and parks are good though!

Well that is canada...

As for partying, problem one you went to a bar. Bars here aren't exactly what they are in most places. Being a college student, we rage at peoples houses and they do tend to get quite rowdy. But i'm assuming you're past that stage in your life, which is fine. I've heard good things about weekends, but you didn't come then so not even worth discussing.

I dunno, I was there for more than two weeks in February and went to two house parties. They were your typical house parties I guess, just with 3% beer. I'm not really past that point in my life, I'm not old! We just ended up staying downtown one night after coming in from Wyoming.

Any place with Alta and Park City can't be all bad!

there's alcohol and drugs in utah??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

i gotta get the fuck out of here!

Learning time:

utah beer = 3.2 % by WEIGHT = 4% by volume, like normal beer is measured

Keystone light "real beer" in any other state = 4.2% by volume. Most other light beer or beer that's under 20 bucks a 30pack is 5 or less (unless its ice of course, which is 5.9). So really, not that much of a difference, people just blow it out of proportion.

And you you still can go to the liquor store and get "real beer" or hard liquor, but no one does that because everyone is training.

thanks for the comments everyone. but to those of you being sarcastic, please stop, i can't tell when you are joking and when you aren't. plus, i'm talking about the place where i am going to live for the next 4 years and where the best times of my life are going to be, so id rather not listen to any smart-asses trying to be funny.

but to the rest of you who are serious thanks for the help

actually no, i did not think there would be so much sarcasm. yea its a major university, but its also in the middle of morman country, and there is absolutely no alcohol permitted on campus. most colleges allow it, some even have bars. i even said in the question that booze and weed are part of the college experience, so i know a thing or two about colleges. i just wanted to see if utah was any different.

Yeah, the gravity by weight versus volume is true. But, light beer is not real beer. It's tasteless diet beer. I thought the beer in Utah was absolute shit, it's like Chinese beer. Here, we drink beer that is has about 50% to 150% more alcohol than Utah beer. You can get Coors Light here too, I think that's the only light beer here. They throw really sick parties in the mountains. Beer is way cheaper down there than it is here where we pay abut $2 a bottle or $5.50 for a 750ml bottle of better stuff.

I really don't think it's blown out of proportion. There are serious regulations on alcohol in Utah. Your favourites are going to taste different than what you're used to. Finding wine in Utah is next to impossible compared to most other places. I'm not really trying to say you can't get drunk in Utah, you can drink more beer, piss more, and achieve the same effect, but there are certainly absolutely awful liquor laws that limit or restrict what you can drink and where you can drink it.

same experience that i had. didnt go to that many house parties compared to how much i just drank in my dorm room. we had a pong table

Oh yeah dude we party all the time here, 2 liter bottles of Mt. Dew are only like a buck! Couldnt do it without the cookies though, So good! mmmm. anybody down for a little yatzhee and cupcake party this weekend? god knows i am!!!

noo one should come to utah. there is no drinking (caffeine baddddd, milk only) and it never snows ever and the resorts are really far away (hours to days)

They are changing the laws. The U gets down, game nights shit goes wild.

Check out westminster, its a wet campus.

stauss speaks the truth the U of U after a football game is a rowdy place its a major school with thousands of kids of course theres drinking

As someone who lives here I can say that this issue is definitely blown out of proportion. But I don't mind because it keeps a lot of the bros in colorado. (not calling you a bro since you made no reference to the tragedy of 3.2 natty ice)

Plus it's amazing getting used to this then going elsewhere and getting some keystone ice...

utah isnt that bad. to adress your points, many of the regulations that make drinking a hassle in ootah have recently been overturned by the state legislature, including the private club membership laws.

there is a store on 3rd east/3rd south down town that is a state run wine store, and has hundreds of hundreds of bottles of wine. you can always find it at liquor stores too. it does suck that you can't get it at grocery stores, but it's not that much of a hassle.

miller lite in utah vs. the rest of the world have basically the same amount of alcohol, but when you are talking about non-mass produced light beer, utah is actually not so lacking. when you are at the liquor store picking up that wine, check out some of the beer from squatters or wasatch breweries. they make very good beer in a variety of styles and alcohol content. it isnt 3.2 at the liquor store.

as for the bars, there are lots of fun bars downtown, and they are generally open 7 days a week from noon until 1 or 1:30. bar time is early, but that just means afterpartys start sooner. maybe you went on election day? they didnt used to have bars open on election days stemming from an old 1800's statute when voting was done in the bars, but its been removed along with the other lame ass laws. things can get very rowdy too, especially if the bartenders are cool and it's not a lame ass dance club.

yeah, utah is not as rad as some places when it comes to partying your face off in huge clubs until the sun comes up, but if you take into consideration the sick outdoor opportunities in all seasons, giving up an hour or so at bar time doesn't seem like such a big deal.

whoever said they only went to 3 house parties in a month must not branch out very much because its not rate we that have 3 at our house in a week.

and THEBAY.... ummm im pretty sure there are more morman girls on greek row than most other places... they love that shit.

bottom line... no parties, no bitches, no pot..... just tons of blow. it gets you jacked to ski hard.

ok so i wasnt going to post but saw you were getting frustrated.
I live in pc and avoid slc like the plague. SLC has a HUGE heroin problem. Lots of the little mormon kids dont drink but they love to smoke heroin. There is a fuckload of weed and coke in pc. There are also plenty of halucinogens. If you want to party there is something going on nearly every night of the week here.

who said anything about wearing pink? it's "pink" because the proceeds go towards the fight against breast cancer. wear what you will, don't come, we'll get hyphy without you.

you should probably just go to colorado and chill with the other snow bros. Utah is awesome if your the kind of person who doesnt need to ask the internet "ARE THERE PARTIES AT A LARGE UNIVERSITY"

Is it the University of Wisconsin Madison? Nope, but it is what you make of it.
